Thanks Philip. Amazing to think that the Earth's spin can play such a role on wind direction, even overriding pressure gradients to some degree.

OWN, we humans tend to do a lot of guessing instead of using our Brain and common sense. :)

A thunderstorm is coming. Which of the following features that you can observe with the human eye may indicate it's going to be a severe thunderstorm?
a) An anvil head with a diffuse edge b) A large solid boiling cloud mass with a cloud top that overshoots the anvil head c) Lightning d) Rain that starts off heavy and gets lighter.

Process of elimination-

I think if it is a diffuse edge it indicates weakening.

I do not think lighting is a measure of storm intensity.

Rain starts heavy and gets lighter- I think this usually indicates the storm is weakening as well.

That leaves me with B as the correct answer.

I'd probably go with all of the above

Sarafl
We get a lot of those turbulent anvil-shaped clouds in summer on the Highveld. Can be pretty scary at times.

We talk about meteorological weather here based on what happens around the planet. However, space weather can also have an effect on us. What is space weather and how does it affect us?

"Space weather is the concept of changing environmental conditions in near-Earth space or the space from the Sun's atmosphere to the Earth's atmosphere".

"Space weather storms can cause problems on Earth. Strong storms can mess up radio signals, shut down electrical systems, and expose people to radiation".

Spot on Philip1 and Phokojwe.

Space weather is mostly the "wind" created by solar flares which is highly electro-magnetic and can be highly radioactive which can impact on aircraft in the direct path, will impact on any of our astronauts in the ISS and will have major impacts on radio.

  Space weather is not something that humans should take lightly when they're out in the great beyond, then, TP? It's violent out there. We've got it easy here on earth, I think. :hmz:
