While OWN is preparing a question, who was Tessa?

Let's try to establish who Tessa is/was   gmlsmit has been waiting for an answer here since January

We know that
gmlsmit wrote:
Tessa was a foster mother who lived at the place named after a Regiment of King Mswati II who guarded a river crossing against the Bapedi. Here she made a sacrifice and today is remembered at the place where he who swept clean spent many years.

and confirmed that

Yes, Tessa is remembered at Skukuza. Wander through the memory area in the place where the first warden and one of his best friends are also remembered and you will learn about Tessa.

Any ideas anyone?

Somewhere from the dim recesses of the mind, pops up: a dog ??
There is a memorial area/garden in Skukuza that honours all the rangers' dogs that died in the line of duty.

The man from deep in the Waterberg is hot on the spoor.
Be on the lookout for Lions and Mambas in the Tihalabye area.
She also may have been present when the blasted parts of the Genl. Viljoen gun was discovered.

Interesting answer, Ted was the owner of Jess who had a litter of six puppies, one of them became the famous Jock of the Bushveld.

Tessa was of similar breed but roamed the area many moons after Jess and jock.

The place is Malelane, which is Siswati named after the Malalane Regiment of Mswati II (1845-1865) who guarded the river crossing against the Bapedi.

Ok - Tessa was a dog that belonged to a ranger ( probably a Staffie like Jock) and died in the line of duty and is buried in Skukuza in the canine cemetery. She is also connected with Malelane.......

:hmz:

Was this Ranger Johan van Graan's dog? She raised 3 orphaned lion cubs when he was stationed at Malalane which were subsequently returned to the wild. She died of snake bite when protecting his daughter from a Black Mamba.
