How about this one?

A boy went to a funfair. At one of the booths, a man said to the boy, "If I write your exact weight on this piece of paper then you have to give me R200; but if I cannot, I will pay you R200."

The boy looked around and saw no scale, so he agreed, thinking no matter what the man wrote on the paper, he could just say that he weighs more or less than that amount!

But the man was too clever for the boy and, in the end, the boy ended up paying the man R200. How did the man win the bet?

These things are always more obvious than we think. Tip: Look carefully at the wording.

He wrote "your exact weight" on the paper

Let's see...

A man and his son drives down the road.
They are involved in an accident.
The man dies on impact.
The son is rushed to the hospital for an emergency operation.
The surgeon walks into the theatre, turns around and says
"I cannot operate, that is my son."

All are blood family.

The surgeon is the boys mother, I think

Yup! Funny how many people, including women, simply cannot get their head around to think in that direction.

You have a hole in the ground of arbitrary (considerable) depth, but just big/wide enough such that a table-tennis ball drops in. Without damaging the ball, how do you get it out?

Fill it with water?

I know (some) rules say to allow 24 hours, but the answer is so obviously correct that here goes.

For this one we'll get back to animals since this is a SANParks site. And some out-of-the-box thinking is required...


Old man dies and leaves his estate to his three sons, with a couple of strange clauses, since some of them were a bit naughty.

One of the clauses related to his camels.

Oldest son get half (1/2)
Second son get one-third (1/3)
Youngest son gets one-ninth (1/9).
Problem is, there's only 17 camels.

They scratch their heads but simply cannot work it out and have to get help from their clever uncle Ali. So they call him and he comes over to them from where he stays some distance away in his tent camp.

For the mere insignificant price of their lovely sister as another wife, he quickly solves their problem for them, such that they are all satisfied. No camels are left over, and none are hurt in the solving of this riddle.

(Will look tomorrow at who the clever one is that's solved it and posted another riddle for us.)

The only solution I can figure out for all of them without slicing a camel up is:

Clever Uncle Ali travels all the way to the sons on his own camel. When he gets there, he adds his own camel into the equation. So now there is a total of 17 + 1 = 18 camels to work with.

The eldest son gets 1/2 of 18 = 9 camels;
The middle son gets 1/3 of 18 = 6 camels; and
The youngest son gets 1/9 of 18 = 2 camels.

In total the sons get 9 + 6 + 2 = 17 camels. Clever Uncle Ali leaves on his camel back to his tent camp and - whalahhh - the father's wishes are granted.

This sounds right to me, so I'll post another problem for the worthy forumites here. (If my answer is incorrect, I'll retract my new puzzle and keep it for a future posting.)
