I suspect that is exactly what is happening here.

Usually the young will lie motionless, trying to avoid detection. This one is however moving about.

Interestingly, it has seen us, but is not moving away. It is not viewing us as danger! Maybe too young?

Sorry Imberbe can I Put my two cents worth in here.

I am interfering because many of the orphans I have dealt with over the years have been brought to me by good Samaritans who have "saved" "abandoned" antelope babies. Almost all of the antelope who's young are relatively weak at birth hide them in thickets for anything up to six weeks. They will return only to feed the little ones and then go away. The reason for this is that the young are born with very little scent that would attract predators so it is safer for the adults to stay away in this period as their presence may attract predators. The Young's instinct is to freeze in a thicket as the predator is not attracted by scent and they are too weak to run away fast enough this is their only method of defence.

So please any well meaning people out there who read this - LEAVE THEM ALONE - if you pick them up some poor mother will be looking for her young one whilst someone like me will be loosing sleep feeding the poor thing every four hours.

Yes, that is very important!

Also to those living in the city! Please leave those small poor "orphan" birds alone! The parents is around, caring for them. Interfering humans are not needed.

So, lets do exactly that! We will walk straight past it, so as not to intimidate this young kudu, nor scare its mother away.

This was really a special experience! Seeing the "innocence" of this animal. It was totally helpless! If we were predators, it had no chance. Mother knew its best chance was not to be seen, and that is why she left it here.
