Because statistics in Africa are so unreliable, it is difficult to pinpoint a specific animal. Some say it is the leopard, others finger the elephant and even the buffalo. The croc may also be in contention here, although not a mammal. Many deaths go unreported, so the true figures may never be known.

To pinpoint a specific animal is purely a guess.

:hmz: Any one else?. This question came from resources dated back a long time (1300's), but some people now try to proof it wrong. :?

Heksie  Go for it. That is according to resources. They killed more people than anything else. ("Disease-carrying rats may have killed more people than all wars combined. Bubonic plague, for instance, which is carried by rats, has killed millions of people".)
People in 2011 tried to prove they were not the cause. Anyone else to comment on that, you are welcome.

Black Death stemmed from the combination of Bubonic and Pneumonic plague.

Giraffe, it means camel like leopard. The leopard (pardalis) refers to the colouration/spots which is similar to that of a leopard and the giraffe walks like a Camel. With the 2 left legs moving together followed by the 2 right.
Interestingly... it also said that the Afrikaans name Kameelperd refers to the way the giraffe walks like a Camel and gallops like a horse... Fact or Myth? (but that's another thread...
