Thanks for reminding me OWN. Sorry for the delay. Caught up with all the flooding news etc. Here is an easy one.

The borehole/waterhole "Mac's" to be found on the Nhlowa Road (S28) between Crocodile Bridge and Lower Sabie rest camps was named by ........................(a) and after whom...........................(b) :hmz:

Chips, I'd guess that it has something to do with the Scottish that passed the area?

Sorry OWN and Philip1. But thanks for trying. Another clue - It was named after someone who worked in Kruger.

Chip and Phillip1

The Bububu is one of the larger tributaries of the Shingwedzi River. What does bububu mean?

Clue: it is an ideophone (Ideophones are words that evoke a vivid impression of certain sensations or sensory perceptions, e.g. sound, movement, color, shape, or action)

Duke Ellieton, what a good and appropriate question, considering the floods around Kruger and Shingwedzi in particular. Bububu in Tsonga means 'the faraway rumbling of a river in flood.' There is another meaning ' to wake up very early and quickly'.

Here is another one with two parts to it.
The well known road, the H2-2, is known as Voortrekker Pad/Road.
1) After what voortrekker (pioneer) was the road named?
2) As a child in the 1940's, I only knew the road as '...........................'. This name is recorded on old maps in my possession. :hmz:

Hi Ndloti, long time no contact. Sorry, but I can't make out the name on your map. It doesn't appear to be the same name as I am referring to though. Would be interested to see a full and slightly larger map that you have. Could you PM me a copy? It would be really appreciated. I have a map that I thought came out in the 1940's, that doesn't show Tshokwane picnic spot. Is yours really from 1934?

Duke Ellieton, I guess you have the same reference book as I do. You are nearly right though and so I will give the answer to you and you will be IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From the 1940's until I think the early 1950's, my family and I only knew the H2-2 as "The Jock of the Bushveld Road". The name was changed to "Voortrekker Pad/Road" when I was still in Primary school. We were disgusted to see a huge canvas banner stretched across the beginning of the road, just outside of Pretoriuskop Rest Camp, renaming it Voortrekker Pad/Road. J J Kloppers & Hans Bornman, in their book of place names in the Kruger Park, referred to an old name of "Jock Road", but I beg to differ. In Harry Wolhuter's book, 'Memories of a game ranger', first published in 1948, the inside cover has a map of the area and the road is marked "Jock of the Bushveld Road".

You are right regarding the second part of the question, namely that it was named after a Trichardt other than Louis. In fact it was named after CARL Trichardt, another Voortrekker who explored this route in the 1800's.

Go for it Duke
