My first choice is Pafuri picnic spot early in the morning.

My second choice is Pafuri picnic spot at lunch time.

My third choice .............. :hmz:

I went there once a long time ago.

At this point, I'd like to be frank with all my friends and say that Pafuri picnic sight is only fot the purist. There is no hotel, no pool, not casino or Mac D's take away. (Give it time, I'm sure someone will come up with an idea along this line before long. Some "tenderpreaneur" with a vison for what KNP should be and not what it is....)

Pafuri is a very quiet little piece of paradise. There are no spectacular views, just the absolute essence of nature. It is what the entire KNP should be like. Little or no human intervention and less development. I deeply regret that I have only managed to get there once. It is a place of such spectacular tranquility that one might be able to forget that the world is such a humdrum rat-race and is over populated. If ever I think of a perfect place to escape this world we live in, Pafuri has to be the place to go.

Is it so wrong to want to keep such places in tact, as they are?

In fact Pafuri is sacred , there should be a system for Pafuri whereby one books one of 10 slots for the day .
In order to keep it sacred without a procession of cars arriving and departing after a perfunctory stop to scan for an exciting sighting or a toilet stop , each slot should entitle you access in one 4 seat passenger vehicle .

Pafuri is also my favourite spot, but there is a place which is so remote, that one can call it the forgotten corner of Kruger. Take your map and look where the western boundry of Kruger turns west, instead of north. (about 60km south east of Phalaborwa ) It is a cul de sac where the road to the private reserves end with Kruger on the other side. I have sat there many a time, just soaking in the quietness and tranquility of the place. No other vehicle, no other people, no noisy campers, just me and the sounds of the Nightjars, Scops Owls and the roar of lions in the distance.

My favourite of all places , a picnic site one sometimes passes on the Lebombo eco trail .

This is a place that re-ignited my love for nature. The gate is more to keep MM in than the animals out

There is a magical spot on the S145 near Talamati ...
You need to detour off of the main road towards the river.
The spot by the river forms a little grove surrounded by Mighty Trees. As you sit in the shade you are alone and get to watch all the antics of the monkeys and the colourful birds :D I dream of seeing a leopard lying on one of those low branches one day :D

Cheetah :D I know the place. It is a dead ringer if you are looking for African Green Pigeon. I agree, it is very, very special, indeed. 8)

The butterfly in the stomach feeling when you approach a gate is at its best for me at Phabeni. Then there is something magical about Leeupan, I have never seen a lion there and sometimes nothing but the dry tree on the northern side - I just love the spot it feels as if I am on the moon or somewhere between the stars, I think heavenly is the word.
My other favorite spots are of course Crooks corner and Mahlangeni - and the big Baobab in the Makuleke area, and the view over Lanner Gorge and then and then .........
One of the places I used to Iove spending time at was the "Small Heroes Acre" - the dog cemetery in Skukuza unfortunately it is no longer there :(

How long is a piece of string ? :wall: This question would be easier to answer. The entire Krguer is such a special place :) To single out one place would just impossible for me...but among my favourites would be lake panic and Afsaal for sentimental reasons.
