Has anyone driven the H4-2 recently?
This is the road from Lower Sabie down to Croc Bridge.

We drove it a few times this past December.
And it wasn't great.
The first few km along the Sabie was fantastic for Elephants. We saw loads of breeding herds and a few big bulls.

And the stretch from the S28 junction down to Croc Bridge had quite a bit of general game. So that was worth while.

But the bush along the majority of this road was really thick.
One couldn't see more than a meter or two in, at most.

The other problem, is this road leads to a gate. So it tended to get very busy, with loads of traffic.

This road was fab last August. We had 3 leopard sightings on it. Two of big males (quite possibly the same one) and another of a mother with (not so young) cub!

The Thickets have always tend to be quite, I love the road, but tend to do it first thing in the morning, in December it is before gate opening 8)

I have had many Lion sightings on the tar in the morning

In 50+ years of going to Kruger, my dad saw his first wild dog on this road, making quick work of a steenbok. I have seen them a number of times on it.

Like all roads you can have a quiet ride, like my last few on Eloff street & the S100.

I agree BB, we have driven it and seen nothing but that is an exception to the rule, one year in May we had 4 separate sightings of lion laying in the road.We have also had Cheetah and Wild dog sightings as well s plenty of Leopards, so in general it's been a great road for us  ( probably won't see a thing on it when we go in May)

There was a leopard in a tree on our way to Lower Sabie from Croc Bridge (in December) - I didn't see it though.

Turns out I was looking at the wrong tree

Otherwise we didn't see much at all.

This past December both these were great for me

Seems maybe game was just a bit sparse along here in December.

The S28, just a few km to the east was far more productive.

Any road has " quiet times". This road is highly recomended by both forumites and books. We drove the road on 3 occasions last July, without seeing any of the big 5, with the exception of elephants. Did however have a great sighting of a genet crossing the road and the Hyenas at Crocodile Bridge restcamp was excellent!

Yesterday we saw a pride of at least 16 lion (8 of them cubs) on the H4-2

Edit:
Forgot to add that two days before that we were the first out of LS gate heading down the H4-2 and about 2 Km from LS came across two doggies huddled together on the side of the road trying to stay warm in a torrential downpour.
