On the morning of 26 July 2009 before 05:00 the guest of unit 12 woke up smelt smoke and saw a glow. He woke up the other two occupants of the unit and all three ran outside to discover the roof of the unit on fire. The guest in unit 11 heard the commotion, saw the fire and called the emergency number (Duty Phone)

The Duty Manager came to investigate to fight the fire but the extent of the fire was too great and he contacted the Hospitality Manager who alerted the fire fighting team. The fire team having ascertained that there were no people in the unit began to combat the fire as well as evacuating the surrounding units.

The fire was kept contained in unit 12 despite the fact that unit 11 is only 4 meters away. The fire fighting continued and the fire was finally under control at 07:00 and mopping up operations continued until 09:00.

The unit was completely gutted but no guests were injured during this unfortunate incident.

There were a series of miracles that took place.

The guest in unit 11 reported the fire almost immediately.
All fire fighting efforts went well without any major problems.
Nobody was injured or killed.
There was not a breath of wind during the whole time.
The only two items that were rescued undamaged were two Gideon bibles.

All thanks must go to the Lord for help during this incident.

No cause of the fire has been established yet but it appears as if it was misadventure.

Mopani Management apologises for any inconvenience experienced by our guests as a result of this unfortunate incident. Number 12 will be rebuilt and we will make the unit even better than before.
