Hi All
I think that the builders holiday from the 16th December to the 13th January when the industry closes for the annual shutdown will effect those visiting over that period.
However if the construction/noise affects you why not get out at gate opening time and stay out until gate closing time. Just a thought. :slap:  :slap:

I do agree Sparrow  . We were at Olifants, Croc Bridge as well as Satara during construction in all three camps and it never influenced our stay. They always started work when we already left in the mornings and stop at 16:00 in the afternoon  . I really don't think that the work done at Lower Sabie will influence one's stay there. We will be there from the 13th till the 17th of October 2013 and will report on this thread how we found the construction during our stay  .

Just returned from LS.
Don't book no. 73. (BD2U unit) We were put there for 3 nights. ( we booked our accommodation in okt. 2012, ) On our terrace we saw about 10 construction workers and a little bit river. We could not relax there :( :( . There was a lot of noise. They should not put anybody there but close it for a while, unless people are informed and choose to stay there.
After complaining we were given a BD3U unit no. 4. Also construction on the Steenbok guesthouse, but we only saw the river now :D and the noise was not that bad, so our stay in Lower sabie was (again) great....

My opinion is that, if there is indeed noise disturbance to guests in the vicinity of construction, then that accommodation should be discounted for that period: when I pay for my accommodation in Kruger, I don't only pay for the amenities, but also the tranquility and ambience. And if the latter are not available, then the value of the experience decreases. If the days are cool and overcast, we love to drive all day, but if searing hot, there is nothing nicer than stretching the back and calves on an airconditioned - and peaceful - bed in the heat of the day. :hmz:

:| :| :| :|

they have just completed renovations to units 1 & 2 and are still busy rebuilding 2 of the old slate roof units just off the river view.

they are rebuilding the communal kitchen in the vicinity of units 17 & 18.....

they have also started removing the roof from the old restaurant complex..... no idea what they have planned for that building...

the noise is evident during the day and can be a bit of an annoyance depending on where one is........

I'm hoping that as part of this construction cycle that the old Huts are being upgraded. They have served their time and I'm sure all visitors will be willing to a few Rand more for updated facilities.

If possible they should be made in to BG3's (if possible).

No revolution, but an evolution.

Depending on where you are in the camp you will have to put up with a lot of noise and disturbance. Upgrades are very necessary but while being done they should close large sections of the camp and discount the accommodation. Personally I would stay far away from LS until it is finished

I had a quick chat with Rofhiwa Nedididi from Lower Sabie and he confirmed the following
Current renovations to units BD2U (old map BG2U) Numbers 66 – 72 will be completed on or before 3 December 2013
All other renovations in the camp is scheduled for completion for the same date
Renovations to BG2 23 – 30 will only commence mid January 2014
There are no scheduled renovations or ongoing works for the period 3 December 2013 to mid January 2014
(Possibly due to the annual construction industry December break)

Keeping my fingers crossed that Lower Sabie will be its tranquil self over the 2013 Christmas Holidays

Goes to show that December is the time to visit or just camp far away from the disturbance. Hope I haven't opened a can of worms  but then sparrows enjoy worms.

As I mentioned in the Lower Sabie tread we stayed in FU5 unit no 61(opposite the swimming pool) and was very disappointed with the noise of the construction.I do not mind the working during the week and realize that the new units are going to look good, but over weekends? The 2nd FU5 unit next to ours was also being renovated and people was working in there till late evening.(on the camp layout it still shows as FQ5).

Uhmmm....thanks for all the info, fellow forumites.

We are in Lower Sabie from 23-26 November 2013. First two nights in the basic family hut (and I have asked for the one next to wild bill's FU5 unit, because I thought that it would be the quietest of them all!)...then we move to the family bungalow on the perimeter, I think the one next to the guesthouse.

It seems that both the units that we have booked are close to the construction action and we will be there before December :-(

What to do.....what to do...??
