Thanks for the update and pictures Stephens  Any news on the reconstruction of Kanniedood dam? If I look at the pictures, it is just the sand wall to the right of the main dam wall that will have to be replaced. As mentioned previously, the the vertical embankment created by the floods will create excellent breeding spots for the bee eaters.

Dear Jen

The only change that we are currently implementing is converting BD5 into BD3.

We are staying at Shindwezi camp in mid October. Do you know when the restaurant will be opening?

Hi all
Have just returned from camping in Kruger and spent 3 nights at Shingwedzi - they have done a great job getting everything running again and quite frankly, if you didn't know about the flooding you wouldn't really be aware of anything remiss! The restaurant and shop are not yet open, nor the pool, and some of the units are still being repaired, but there is a little tuckshop and the impala lillies are all in bloom and look stunning. The camping is not the greatest as very dusty / dirty but then it has always been like that! It was MUCH fuller than I expected with a lot of GP cars there. The pool looks great but is unfortunately still locked. The animals don't seem to have been affected too badly either - saw 3 sharpe's grysbok in the area so somehow they managed to survive the floods! Bathrooms were in good condition and the laundry was up and running again as well

Great to read from the latest media report on the flood damage that the swimming pool is open again at Shingwedzi and that the shop should be open on the 20th September, just before we arrive.

Of my children are currently in the Shingwedzi Rest Camp - leaving today. My daughter has reported that there seems to be a plague of mosquitoes, all of them have been badly bitten - so if you are planning to visit the area, prepare yourself, use repellent and do not get bitten.

The shop is open.
The swimming pool is open.
The restaurant will only open late in October.

And yes ... there are a lot of mozzies!

And yes ... there are a lot of mozzies!

Indeed there are mozzies, in the cupboards, under the beds, in the showers they are all over.

Despite Mylol, peaceful sleep and citronella oil.

My 9 year old grand daughter in Shingwedzi in the morning.

The response from the camp management - we have reported the problem, we will put paraffin on the pools.
