If you have a look at the picture it definately looks enclosed. It has not kitchen area so it will be near the communal kitchen.

Grasha,

I've stayed in a BG3U before and found that other accommodation is better. The BG units are on the perimeter, but you are cage in and no proper braai area. You also need to use a communical kitchen to wash up dishes and cook, where you may find that the hotplates are not working or you have no idea of the setting.

We had a bookings fpr two days at Letaba and the next day moved to a BD3Z unit costing the same price as the perimeter rondavel, but much more space and a kitchen area with a lovely stoep to braai on. The BG3U rondavels are on the perimeter west of the restaurant and close to the education centre (olifant museum).

The BD3Z rondavel was behind the BG3U unit and although not on the perimeter the same distance to walk the lookout point and shop.

Considering that you pay the same (R845) for a BD2, BD3, BD3Z, BG2U and BG3U I would rather book the BD3Z unit or BD3 unit. From the accommodation pics it looks as if the perimeter rondavels are not recently upgraded as in the case of the BD units.

Thank you for your input - I have changed my booking to a BD3U bungalow. Those are better I think

I am booking online and have a decision to make between type BD3U (which it says clearly is on the perimeter) and FQ6 (which doesn't say anything about being on the perimeter).

There are 3 of us (one child) so FQ6 is clearly more spacious. How different are the views? Can I request any particular cottage while booking online? (on the map 101, 105, 106 and 110 seem closer to the perimeter - but it's not clear that all of these are FQ6 (apart from messages on this forum) or that I will get any of these.

Hi dk105001,

A warm welcome to the forum.

Have a look here and here for photos on some of the FQ6 chalets. The view photos there do show the river.

You can look on the index of Accommodation photos for more accommodation info.

On the online booking system it is not possible to ask for a specific number. You need to contact the camp a few weeks before you will arrive to ask if you could possibly have a specific unit, but it is not guaranteed.

Enjoy your stay.........

Any recommendations for the best BD3U location, I've looked at the map but the accommodation types are not clearly marked. Am I right in assuming that 17 - 30 are BD3U units?

Hi there and welcome to the forum. :D

The BD3U units are numbers 39-64. Here you can see it on the map.

Have a look at some pictures of the units. We always stay in the BD3U units and number 63 here and here is our favourite. This year we will stay in 64 and that one is very private and at the end.

Thanks Roaneric,

I was looking at the map on the Letaba page! I think we will try to request 64 or 63.
