Afternoon all,

we stayed at Tambotie last year and loved it, although my gf got a bit scared by all the noises at night. I love that stuff and we had the ratel on our verandah, lions roaring and leopard coughing, in addition to ellies feeding on the fence line. Even the walk around the camp in the evening was a bit scary - we were in the end tent miles from the ablution block and it was dark

I am just wondering whether to go back there or to try Talamati ?
I would appreciate any input from anyone who has experienced both.

We went in Aug and are looking at Sept this year. The hide at Tamboti was v disapointing and i am wondering if the one at Talamati is any better ? Does it have water all year round....

many thanks in advance
Scops

Inside or outside the tent?

You just about said it all about Tam, Scops.

The hide at Tal has a great view of the waterhole in front of the camp. Ask Patson for the 'scheduled times' of the visiting drinkers. The area is not very rich with game, but more rare animals are seen, like sable, honey badger, and on night rides, serval and civet. Something that puzzles me is why the accom was built with all the doors facing the other units and not the river or 'front' of camp. I have also had the 5 except leopard in the area, and friends have had a cheetah mum with cubs on a kill just outside the gate.

Like all of Kruger, timing is everything.

Decision? you can do a lot worse than either.....

On our last vist to Tamboti as we were preparing for bed hubby saw a somewhat large serpent uncoil itself from inside the sleeper couch and slither under the canvas. I refused point blank to go to bed despite being told just take a sleeping tablet! I made the guys carry the sleeper couch onto the verandah where it remained for the duration of our stay! BTW that was No. 40 which has the best position but the most treacherous steps!

Hi Scops, :D

I am such a Tambotie fan, but I would suggest you also give Talamatie a shot. Their bird hide offers more than Tambotie and it has such a completely different atmosphere.

Talamati reminded me a lot of some of the cottages that we used to stay at as a child. Just very comfortable and homely. Its well worth a shot and then you can make your own comparison.

We stayed in Tamboti last year,in my opinion it is very "overrated", we are booked again this year for only 2 nights because hubby loves the feel of the camp but if I was you I would give Talamati a try

I would die of fright if a large serpent uncoiled in my tent - hope I only read of such excitement. Due to go to Tam on 20 April 2013, and I am prepared to trade total peace of mind for the silence, the nightjar's call, the dry rasping cough of a leopard and the sound of ellies drinking at night (pool in front of 26 & 27). Hopefully we will be near the ablution block. Would agree though that if affordable Talamati is a grand choice. However, pensioners can't always be choosers, so Tamboti it is for us

hi BB - the outside noises were far scary than anything I could conjure up (even if I had made my famous Nandos beans)

Thanks also to S-Lee, Penny, MM, tent-d and cygnus for your input. I am not even going to tell my gf that snake story - lol. And i agree both will be awesome choices - but a spanner in the works is that the friends who are/were travelling with us can't commit at the moment, so it makes Talamati a bit pricey as no 2 bed cottages are available !

Even worse - we will have to forfeit our Biyamit booking too as there are no smaller units left - bleak !

This has got me thinking (i love planning trips), with a KNP map in hand, that maye at that time of year (early Sept) I should concentrate more on the south as it will be dry and I remember from Aug last year that the roads away from water were pretty sparse.

But then I remember how much I like the bush camps and I think Tamb is back in - with a change to Tal if my friends re-commit. So its Skuks-Tam(3)-Biy(there is one night in a 2 person cottage)-B'Dal (2).
We drive to Durbs, so have to end in Mal, CB or B'Dal.

bring it on !
