Fortunately the trees between the river and the access road to the camp which were visible from the high water bridge have remained intact .

I do think that road up to the camp main gate is one of the most beautiful in the park. I do hope the bulk of those majestic trees survived.

Is that what you are referring to ndloti? I guess you mean those currently able to be seen from the bridge? Do hope the rest of them survived intact.

This is such great news.

Well done to everyone involved in getting Shingwedzi up and running again, if only partially.

A remarkable effort.

3 d , yes , the ones visible from the high level bridge are still intact , I cannot vouch for the trees downstream from camp towards the Kanniedood dam where theriver banks are lower , but from the signs it seems to have been a flash flood and not a sustained high speed flood as large trees along the Mphongolo loop seem mostly intact and some of the short river view by ways on this road are closed as they have been partially washed away , the riverbed along the Mphongolo has taken on a new apperance ..

Do we know at this stage whether the garage, shop and restaurant will be up and running when the camp reopens? The damage looked pretty bad from the photos.

Also how are the staff doing? Did they get their stuff replaced? :hmz:

Shing is our favourite camp and I was devestated to see what ther floods had done.

So glad it will soon be open again.

I drove the Mphongolo Loop just after it reopened (judging by the vehicle tracks I may well have been the first tourist vehicle) and was very pleasantly surprised. The river itself and the riverbanks took a hammering, but the vegetation is largely intact. Some trees right on the river were knocked off their socks, but elsewhere the only reminder of the flood is the debris hanging in trees and bushes, in places at an impressive height.

Hi All
Could someone tell me if the BG2 units at Shingwedzi have a verandah.
Thanks a lot

Hi Grasha

They do have a veranda, but not a closed one. Here you can find some pictures. I will also take more pictures for the accommodation thread in July when we visit.
