HI Helpful Formites:
Trying to book the best possible accommodation in Pretoriuskop (June 2015) but see the map and ID's are a bit confusing. I have booked BD2M thinking that is as near to the perimeter as you can get..., but now thinking I may be wrong. Can you tell me what is the best accommodation in this camp and what is the ID for that location and where on the map it is??

Thank you!!!
Dana

Hi Dana

We stayed in 133, and I would say 134 is even better as next to the fence. But any of those, 117 -134 are nicely situated.

I think the one D is for a double bed, and the V for a view.
133 etc

Hi Sara

Please have a look at Wildkyker's photos of BD2D no 132 here.
I think the 4th pic shows a double bed.
Hope you will get more info from other 'mites.

I was just browsing through this thread and I saw those photos of the fire. Can anyone tell me what caused it and how much of the camp was damaged? It seems as thought it was quite an inferno.

As far as I recall, it was lightning and pretty much that entire restaurant block was destroyed.
I know I have a book somewhere that describes it, will try and look it up.

Pretoriuskop and surrounding area is steeped in massive history and a famous trading route to the east. My absolute best and favourite camp in the entire Kruger

I have heard from some people who recently stayed in the ES2 huts in Pretoriouskop that these huts now have power points installed. Can anyone confirm this? -

Hi Norms,

Very definitely YES -- we stayed over in July, and charged our camera batteries every day -- much easier than doing it at the camp kitchen where they can easily disappear...
Enjoy your visit,

The H1-1 is amazing!! Regularly see cheetah but have also seen the Big 5, sable and wild dog so a great road. Some of the other roads in the area are very quiet, especially the S3 where our only decent sighting was a side striped jackal and one cheetah, despite driving this road every time we stay there (always hoping our luck will change!) - on the H1-1 we once saw a honey badger and a caracal walking side by side - I was so shocked didn't know which one to take a pic of so ended up having blurry pics of both!!! Amazing sighting!!!

Hi Blackmamba,
Sorry, no pics. We were there last week for 1 night. I was surprised at the amount of game on the H1-1 main road to Skukuza. Usually P/Kop is known to have lower animal densities than eg. Satara etc. But we saw so much in 15 hours, I am actually going back in 3 weeks to spend another 8 days there! For summer, I like to book ES2 hut no 74/75 for lovely shade in the heat of the day... have already done so for Christmas this year.
Hope you have a lovely time!
God bless,
Friedrich von Hörsten

Hope to see you there have booking 27th Dec to 2nd Jan just praying bonus going to help fit it into our budget.
