I emailed the duty manager at Olifants to request a specific bungalow. Got a courteous reply back within 8 hrs
Now that's service!

From Australia, for our 2013 booking we have found it difficult to book a particular bungalow.
Where there is email, that is no problem.
However, when we phone the rest camps without email, the staff won't take a "particular" bungalow request and say to send a fax.
Faxes are virtually now non-existant here and when we have gone to an office which has a fax, they won't go through.
Any suggestions?
Snail mail?
We book centrally 11 months ahead.
This is our 5th trip to Kruger and it has never been a problem to ring an individual restcamp for a particular bungalow, so why is it such a problem for the staff now?

I have phoned various camps in the past for bungalow requests and never had a problem but maybe I was lucky and "hit" the right camps or the person answering the phone.
Have also e-mailed where possible and mostly received a mail back with confirmation, but understand it must be very frustrating when this doesn't work.
Will try and check e-mail addresses for camps.

I think These e-mails addresses will be useful.
I know it says NOT for reservations but if its just a bungalow request then that is what the reservations offices tell us to do.

Elsa - We all appreciate it and hopefully it will save a lot of frustration for the overseas visitors. In SA we can phone but for them it is a BIG problem.

Thanks again

Last year me and wife visited Letaba on our way to Olifants.
We noticed a couple of nice bungalows situated on the perimeter.
Would really like to book one of those for a couple of nights but I used the online system which works pretty good.
The only thing is I cannot see which bungalow is on the perimeter.
Does anyone know this?
Thanks

Bart, a BD3U is right on the perimeter overlooking the river.
Number 63 is a good unit.

You can't fill in a chalet number on your reservation, but you can fax or email the camp a month before your stay and ask for a specific number..........

A month? More like two weeks was the norm....

Well actually it isn't a norm, it is always done at the camp's discretion. It's not a right and it can't always been done.

Agreed. They try to do it as part of customer service excellence.

I have never been refused, and I contact the camp 2 weeks before arrival.

Hi all,

sure that this is not the first of such topics.
I have booked to stay at Orpen next year, in one of the family huts. I would like the one at the very end (number 15 if i recall?).

How do i make this happen??

I believe if you phone Orpen directly (and nobody else has already requested it) then they will reserve it for you. Other camps do it, so I'm sure Orpen will oblige.

Have a wonderful trip............look forward to the Trip Report.

Based on comments by other Mites, phone Orpen about three weeks before you go and request that specific unit

Calling three weeks in advance might be enough for Orpen ... :) :)
But the friendly people at Lower Sabie required a faxed request from me for our stay there during May 2013. So it might be well worth it to call sooner rather than later. (BTW: we will also spend some time in Orpen come May 2013) :D

I requested a specific unit at Olifants for October by calling their office, but was asked by the friendly person at reception to fax a written request to them asap, which I did.
I'll only be able to confirm if the unit was allocated a week before our stay.
Holding thumbs!
When I requested a specific unit at Pretoriuskop earlier this year a phone call was enough and they confirmed it for me immediately.
It might have been a bit closer to our arrival though.
The camps differ in their procedures I think.
It also helps to give them n alternative if they can't give you the requested unit.
