The Big 5 before breakfast..

Unread postby Ert » Fri May 18, 2012 11:32 am

Hi ,

in the beginning of April this year, we spend 2 weeks in kruger. We drove a morning tour from Satara to Olifants
( over S90 ) and saw the big 5 in under 3 hours including 2 big male lions, white and black rhino and at leopard
female in 20 minutes beside only our car ... :D
Enjoy the pictures: http://www.deifuss.dk/59724869

After this morning tour, breakfast was delicious at Olifants restaurant.

In 35 years of visiting Kruger (mostly) and several other SANparks, we have only ever seen the Big5 all in one day, once ever.......................and that took from 5am to 6pm!!! Route Pretoriuskop to Satara!!
Thinking of Africa every day.

Hi Crested Val,

that was the most lucky day ever for us in Kruger. The Big 5 before breakfast including Black Rhino and
the same day afternoom a pack of 15 wild dogs. That was the second time we saw Wild dogs in kruger.. :D

We drove for a Cheetah that day 2 times S90, but no sighting. That will be a dream to take photos of a cheetah next time in kruger.

Rhino, Elephant, lion on the S90 one morning in December.
A big leopard on the S89, and buff as soon as we hit the H1-4 :D

Hi Ert :yaya: I am glad that you had such good sightings  I see that you have enjoyed your breakfast at Olifants - our breakfast at Berg-en-Dal was also very good, including the service

Now you're talking...It is not uncommon to see the boring 5 before lunch......well black rhino is special, but I will trade all that lot for a doggie sighting with a serval thrown in.!

A leopard next to the car IS great Ert. Have not had it often enough, but lions eles and buff are not difficult to get.

Try this for size!

It is not about ticking off big5 of coarse. But I do not feel satisfied after days in the Kruger without being in the midst of a massive herd of buffalo . :D And without hearing the rhino crunch the grass in his mouth :D And what is a Kruger trip without having to reverse for the big grey one :D Or the powerful golden king :D And the elusive rosetta hiding in the trees and stalking through the bush.

Most of us love all the animals of the bush! And cherish the rarities which we might come across! But the big5 are so iconic that it is a shame if we do not encounter them after some days in Kruger :D

Just 5 minutes on foot is good enough for me ...
KNP is sacred. I am opposed to the modernisation of Kruger and from the depths of my soul long for the Kruger of yesteryear! 1000+km on foot in KNP incl 56 wild trails.200+ nights in the wildernessndloti-indigenous name for serval.
