Just wanted to report on an awesome sighting we had last week. We spend at least a week in the park every year and have never had any luck in finding a cheetah on our own. Last week we spent only a few hours in the park on our way back from Mozambique. We were driving very slowly and peacefully along the S82, having entered the park at Crocodile Bridge, planning to have breakfast at Lower-Sabie, before heading home via the S26. About two kms from LS, still on the S82 we spotted a cheetah waiting for us in the middle of the road! The most beautiful sighting ever. It was only us, and the cheetah lingered in the road for a few minutes, looking at us, before graciously disappearing into the bush. A very special experience and I am so glad we could not resist a drive through the park before heading home to Gauteng. (I have never shared a photo, but will share the cheetah one as soon as I have figured our how to upload pics).

Heading back after our breakfast at LS, just before Crocodile Bridge gate, we saw a huge traffic jam, with people literally outside their cars and children standing on the roofs. When we got closer we could see that the fuss was about the silhouette of another cheetah in the distance. We promptly left.

It's great to have a special sighting all to yourself. Then you don't need the far off glimpse in a traffic jam.

BTW, sorry to be pedantic Geckophobe, don't you mean the S28?

Bush Baptist, it was definitely the S82 or Mativhulungu road- an alternative gravel road (loop) you can take when travelling on the H4-2 from Croc. Bridge to LS. We did a circle route, returning via the S28 (I think in my post I referred to this as S26). I can recommend this circle route, we saw more in just three hours than we would sometimes see in two days.

Great sighting

How quickly one forgets.....

I have travelled the S82 many times and not seen cats. Rhino, buffs, eles and general game yes.

Others saw leopard at the river crossing.
