On our last 4 trips we have always tried to book Malelane first, followed by Biyamite, then we fit all the other camps around that. We love the quiet and solitude of the camp and the added benefit of being in front of the first cars out of Berg N Dahl, which can be a bonus.

Unsure about where to book in for Malelane: At the Malelane gate or at Berg-en-Dal camp? (On SANPARKS booking website it states the gate, but on the forum here, at Berg-en-Dal....or has it changed in recent years?).

Thanks

Can anyone please advise me on the following.

We are travelling to Malelane gate next month and was wondering if there is a Woolworths close to the road in Nelspruit or Malelane where we can purchase fresh products eg cooked chicken and salads for our stay in Kruger. Do not want to get caught up in the traffic of Nelspruit as it will be a Saturday.

Thanks :hmz:

The Malelane Woolworths does not have a food department. The nearest is in Nelspruit at the Crossings mall, so if you want to go there you will need to brave the traffic. It is at the junction of the N4 through Nelspruit (rather than the bypass) and the R40.

Otherwise use the Spar or PickandPay in Malelane.

I get most of what I need there. PickandPay is a bit better pricing-wise, but the Spar is bigger and better generally for fresh produce and meat etc. PandP is next to the N4 at the first robot in town, for the Spar you need to turn left at the same robot and go a short distance down the road past the Toyota garage and you will see the shopping centre on your left. Or you can take a slip road as you approach the town which leads you into the shopping centre without going to the robot. It is well signed, but used by lorries a bit.

We have very little noise from the town. Occasionally a 'do' at the TSB lapa nearby or from the rugby club, but they do not go on too long.

One other thing that does cause noise sometimes is if they are harvesting sugar cane opposite camp....that is unfortunately 24hr clanging etc and is horrible! At the moment there is a strike on at the sugar factory so nothing is happening. The fields are close to harvest though.......

Otherwise a lovely peaceful little camp!!!!

Warm welcome to the forum leoci.lucrezia.

There are very definitely guided walks and drives from Malelane camp as well as from the gate if staying outside the park.

You will need to do it direct. I cannot do it for you unfortunately. Perhaps call the gate office? 013 735 6152. Or email Isaac Mthetwa (isaac.mthetwa@sanparks.org) as he is the gate/camp manager.

All morning drives start 30mins before gate opening, evening drives start at 5pm, and walks depend a little on when it gets light in the morning. Time would be confirmed.

Malelane Camp Site

Unread postby Reg Botha » Mon Jul 14, 2014 9:48 pm

Hi, planning to go to Malelane Camp site during the 2nd week of September. Have never stayed at this site. Are the camp sites grassed and do they have electric points? I have a Skipper Tent trailer which is only 220 volt. Thank you.

And a quick reply......yes there are power sockets. You might want to bring a long extension though as some sites are a distance from the plugs, and do not forget to bring the blue camping adaptor.

Many sites do have some grass, but by September the winter will have reduced that to a minimum. It could be quite dusty.

Malelane camp has no shop, restaurant, or petrol station, so make sure you get supplies in Malelane town before you come in, or go to Berg-in-Dal just down the road (12km).

And finally, you check in at Malelane gate as there is no office at the camp itself.

Many thanks! We made it but battled with Internet reception.
What a magic spot we found ourselves in!
