Hi ecojunkie and others! Hope all is going well in KNP EJ! I am camping in Malelane during the first week of May and after checking out your camping report from 2008, I was wondering whether you have some recent photos of the Malelane camping site. Also just to confirm - each site has its own braai right? (saw some on the photos of the above report)
Keep well all!

Nothing much has changed here. There are a number of braai stands around......should be enough for all but sometimes greedy folk take more than one........If that happens steal one back, or speak to staff! The braais are not built in here.

Can anyone update me if there are morning walks taking place from the Camp/ Main Gate at present?

Just back from a day walk activity off-site.

Morning walks are available from both Malelane gate and camp. These are sometimes combined with BnD walks for logistic reasons.

The bungalows have not been upgraded and remain as before.

Recently stayed in one of the bungalows, which we found to be spotlessly clean, quite spacious and very well equipped with cooking utensils. (Better than other camps!!)

It was so peaceful, we didn't want to leave.

We will be back!!!

Aunty Val :D

How was the bungalow in terms of being adapted for the handicapped? Is there a bath? And could two people carry someone and load them in the bath? And are there stairs?

I know Malalane does not have any units that are officially adapted for the handicapped, but it is difficult to find handicapped accomm in the holidays, so it is handy to know which bungalows are OK

Cheetah, the bungalow we stayed in (2) was fine for me.
You would be able to push your Mom in her chair, from where you park, along a path to the bungalow, as it's all on one level.

There is a shower and sink in one room and a separate toilet in another with a sliding door.

I think you would be able to manage.

(It is a four bedder)

Hi there EVERYbody and Crested Val and Cheetah :k

Long time not on board - VeRy BuSy

Always keep my eye on Malelani, just in case LS is fully booked - as most of the time :wall:

One question - the outside world (MENSLAND) just on the other side of Croc River. Is one aware of it? Or just sometimes?

Which of the bungaloes are the nearest or have a view towards the bush?

Keep well
Leana

The bungalows are in a semi-circle facing the river - and yes, the cane-field on the other side, but there is a lovely shady grassed area between the bungalows and the fence. Sometimes there is noise from outside, both from a TSB lapa which is used for functions and sometimes from the Rugby club which is further away but used for bigger noisier functions (only a few times a year). The only other problem from outside is when they harvest the fields closest to the camps and then the noise is 24hrs/day (usually late May).

Bungalow 5 (the only3-sleeper - the others are 4-sleepers) is closest to the fence and the bush. The camp sites have the best bush views, and if people set up considerately then every site can have a place on the fence.
