Hi I wish I could be in the Park everyday but unfortunatly cant, I wont be around during the weekdays, but make sure you do go to PUNDA camp and the Mahooni loop, the best loop of the North is Mphongolo so make sure you dont miss the 2 loop. Early morning as soon as gate opens, just have a short drive to confluence loop and you'll get to see the Shingwedzi Pride. ENJOY 8)

Hi
Kallis1786 - I am sorry that this is a bit off- topic here... but which road are you refering to when you mention the 'confluence loop' ? :hmz:

From Shing, take the road back to the main tar road and at the junction, or just north of it is the confluence loop.

A few years ago there was a massive lighting storm in Skukuza. No rain, no wind .. just lightning running across the skies and smashing with the force of a 100 hippos charging for the river. I thought I was in a club somewhere in Jhb. Was an amazing sight that went on for about an hour (maybe I should not stand outside with lighting striking like that)

If I had my camera back then, I could have had awesome lighting strike photo's :?

Thanks Hawk :) Could not remember the tent numbers in Letaba .. so figured somewhere there must be some info on the forum .. Unfortunately not .. only photo's of 7 and 10 :) Fortunately Lancelot at Letaba helped me nicely :)

A few years ago a bus with Dutch people arrived at Satara and they stayed in the bungalow circle close to the campground. Some people of the group had an accordion. They started playing those Dutch songs that you only like when you have too much drinks and the whole group was singing the songs very loudly. Shortly before ten o'clock they finished with our national anthem.

In June 2011 we stayed at Tamboti for 2 nights. Amazing camp. While we were having our braai in the evening the elephants were grazing in the river bed and the baboons were on the opposite river bank forraging and playing in the trees, so it was one of those wonderful bushveld evenings. The elephants moved off and as night fell it was really quiet. The nightjars were calling and a lone hyena could be heard in the distance. Soon it was lights out and then all hell broke lose  . The baboons had obviously been lying in wait :sniper: and as soon as the last light in the camp went out, they all crossed the river bed and made their way into the camp. The raid was on! Dustbins were being attacked (depsite all the effort that has been put into making them baboon proof), tents were being used as trampolines and a fight club had been set up. The baboons were fighting and screaming, the hyenas in the river bed where cheering them on, the Franklins were more stressed than normal and the Guinea Foul had a lot to say about their sleep being disturbed. In the morning my husband told me that he needed to go to the toilet but he was too scared to venture out of the tent, so he spent the whole night just concentrating on how badly he needed the toilet, needless to say, at first light he was out the door like a cheetah to get to the toilets, but we stopped dead in our tracks when the honey badgers that were raiding the dustbin ran passed us. We still laugh about that night to this day.

LOL .. some good stuff here ...

I can remember a few years back, a few forum guys went for a KNP trip .. There were a few martial eagle backpacks etc in the mix and we had to kidnap and ransom the previous KNP Spokesman for a bowl or two of salad (yes .. we eat salad as well)

Well needless to say .. as we sat there in Satara discussing the urgent matters of the world and the ability to train squirrels and martial eagles to co-operate in a world firts anti-air-poaching exercise by the animals, we were kept being interrupted but a couple of loud people accros the pond of grass in the circle.

Although it was very loud .. a big SHHHHHHHHHHH by the KNP Spokesman brought silence to the night .. deafening silence .. well .. at least for a minute or so till WTM made us all howl with laughter when he asked for some tea

I must say I got a huge smile reading this topic I wouldve probably reacted the same as your wife lol you've got to admit though you had a great night and one that you'll always remember lol! :) ......... As for me and my hub we had our own experience at skukuza we were camping and I don't like walking around at night alone and I desperately needed the loo so i asked him to walk with me on our return we were just by the tree that our tent was fastened to when the shadow of the light caught this apparition jumping from one tree to our tree in the light It looked huge and I thought it was a leopard I got such a fright I jumped into my hubs arms only for us to see that it was a harmless bushbaby lol needless to say my nerves were shot after that and I pinched until morning rather than going walkers again ;)
