When we stayed at Bateleur in May, we looked up the road, saw the table and chairs and thought it would be a nice viewpoint, but turned the other direction as someone else in the camp told us that there were 10 lions on the S52 junction. We never saw the lions, but we were heading towards Shingwedzi for brunch and the lovely S50 so we didn't go back either. Will have to check it out properly next time.

Great lookout point. I have seen Rhino from there and some say you'll never see them in the North...

It is still there. We were there when staying at Tsendze (during a very busy time in the Park) and we were all alone. You are going out of season - I really envy you - so you should also have the place to yourselves.
Although it is not a picnic spot as such, I remember quite a few times having brunch there on the stone "table" and log "chairs".
Which wilderness trails are you doing?

Hi Naomi , am going to Sweni 4 March , Napi 7 March , then 7 nights at Tsendze .

Will be my 51st + 52nd "official " Kruger trail , have done numerous day walks , and other activities when a friend was a trails ranger and member of conservation staff thereafter .

I hope I choose the perfect campsite at Tsendze , your info has assisted me a lot , but can you tell me if sites 3 + 6 are on the camp internal access road , ie close to gate where a person may see / hear every vehicle arriving ?

Any possibility of a rough sketch ?

I experience something special , and I actually see something special too me each time I go there ... just the vista alone is special .

Every time I visit Tshanga I spend time, there just looking deep into AFRICA .
Maybe you will see a Bateleur patrolling his area. Maybe you will see Elephant or Giraffe or a few Buffalo or some Impala or Waterbuck. I once saw a Sable and a Roan antelope at the Silwervis Dam from Tshanga. What you will see is peace and tranquility.
When you leave, you know that you have to return to spend more time for some more soul searching, and experiencing creation, as intended by the great Creator, who must have spent a bit more time here to make this place so special.

Looks an amazing spot and one I am looking forward to visiting next month.

Is Tshanga lookout open for all visitors or only for Bateleur residents?

Tshanga can be visited by everyone Alf. Been there 3 weeks ago. A beautiful place, but very dry at this moment.
Also take a look at Red Rocks. Thats ón the southend road leading to Tshanga.

Sightings are rare there.
Bushbuck, Impala, kill from a LIT in a tree, Giraffe, Elephant, a lot of differant birds.

Aha , BB , again how peoples perceptions and expectations differ .
At Tshanga I see plenty of wilderness , I hear plenty of near silence ...



I clamber down to a rock ledge with all my comforts and spend hours there drinking in the solitude and peace , most stop and go visitors see only the car - in fact I have been left alone there while my companion went driving listening to the sound of gravel under the cars wheels .
Tshanga is my "church" ....
