The Lanner Gorge area is so beautiful that we should consider it good fortune that it is so remote and difficult to access , otherwise it would be like most places where people frequent - cigarette ends and bits from plastic packaging and tissue paper and cellophane and ...,

Please treat us with more photos !
KNP is sacred. I am opposed to the modernisation of Kruger and from the depths of my soul long for the Kruger of yesteryear! 1000+km on foot in KNP incl 56 wild trails.200+ nights in the wildernessndloti-indigenous name for serval.

You know the SANParks at one stage actually planned to build a full-service rest camp right there? It was going to be called Eagle something-or-the-other. Am I ever glad that plan fell through.

Hi Flavia,
I stayed at different occasions at Pafuri camp and it's true they don't accept direct booking.I will pm some information for booking where you book only for nights and be on your own ,self driving, going to and from Pafuri.
During your stay , you have (nice) drives included in the price.

It's such a nice place in the nicest part of Kruger according to me
While writing this post ,I 'm wandering why i'm not doing any booking for 2013. :hmz:
I should hurry up

Thanks to everyone!

Do you think is OK to stay two nights at Pafuri? To stay more could be interesting, but also too expensive.

If I remember our two nights in Pafuri cost more than five nights in the KNP proper, but it was worth it and I think time well spent. A longer stay might have been a bit repetitive, especially since we were too late for the best of the birding but it's a magical place and our guide who had grown up in the area was excellent.
We didn't do the drive to Lanner Gorge, but we did really enjoy the great diversity of Pafuri and we did see the Three Banded Courser!

2 nights can be enough but for me the best should be 3 nights.
It gives you enough time to see the main interesting "corners" but too short when you pack the last morning
And if you are a birder, you would like to never leave this small paradise in Kruger !
It's true ,it's not a cheap place but if you compare to other luxury lodges in or around Kruger,it's rather competitive.
And with all what you eat during the stay you can spend the remaining part of your holidays fasting

I'm pretty sure I hold the record for the most guest nights at Pafuri (I've lost count, but think it is 138 or so), and always book direct. No need to go through a travel agent. They will even accept bookings on the spot if the camp is not full.

As for the length of stay, four nights is the absolute minimum if you are to stand a chance of enjoying the astounding diversity of this large area. To see Lanner Gorge; Crooks' Corner; the Luvuvhu and Limpopo rivers; Mangala and Hutwini; the foodplains and pans; the Fever Tree forest and the woodlands in between cannot be acomplished in a couple of game drives. Indeed, one would need to include a couple of walks to the hidden gems as well, and even then one would only be scratching the surface.

Not necessarily. You can also book a DBB rate and then pay extra for any game drives or walks you wish to go on.

Yes you're right, Johan, it depends where you book ,you can have a DBB rate or a full pack.
I discovered this option during my last stay in may this year.
I think they're can be different ways of booking either you book locally or from abroad.
From abroad, as an international visitor, I've been usually asked to go trough a travel agency and Pafuri camp did not accept direct booking.
Only once when I was in the camp I could add on the spot more nights to my initial stay as there were rooms available.
I know also the prices can be different either you're a national or an international visitor.
And personally, I don't mind, I think it's fair
