This little Picnic Spot is on the S-36 sand road between the Tshokwane area and the Orpen area.

It has a delightful waterhole in full view and is in a prime game-viewing district, with dams such as Air Force and Vutomi nearby!

Sable antelope are a regular sighting in the area.

A worthwhile deviation for those who prefer the more peacefull climes . Fortunately Hlangulene is not often frequented by the average 50 km/h travelling pirate viewer who first seeks conglomerations of vehicles to then claim wonderful sightings as it is relatively distant along gravel roads from the areas offering creature comforts and cafes with curios and trinkets .

Had a wonderful experience there on our last visit, just listening to the call of the ground hornbills. Just wonderful.

It has skottels , also basic ablution facilities and not much else besides a few chairs and tables .

As Saraf says it is usually quiet enough as to be able to hear ground hornbills calling and the wind in the grass .

Gooseflesh this side, Ndloti! We love that place!

To me, this place epitomises what KNP should be. It is rustic, very quiet and beautiful. The staff keep it spotlessly clean.

Thanks to RP, the quiet heaven on earth that is Nhlangulene will no longer be. Certain things should remain state secrets Rich. :naughty: :rtm: :sniper:

I stopped there for brekkie a coule of years ago, and if I had to choose somewhere I wanted to live, it would be a place like this. But enough about my opinions of the place. It is in the middle of nowhere and the roads getting there were very bad. The fact that I love it there is no high recommendation as I am considered to be somewhat faulty. (There is an electrical problem in my brain. (What brain?))

Last year on 25 december went past tshokwane and it was like a zoo there and then we decided to visit this wonderful picnic spot instead and what a wonderful place it is. There were only 2 other cars parked there. Had a wonderful lunch there while watching the game at the water hole. Will visit it again and again.

We were there this last Feb and S36 only had corrugations in patches, not nearly as bad as it used to be.
But I agree, this picnic spot is a real little gem, much like Makhadzi up above Letaba. :D

We love going there... If we come from the top we are sometimes REALLY happy to see it... And that's not because we're hungry!! The sightings around it have includes hyena, jackal, lion, sable... The road was some rough going at times but that doesn't deter us much.

The new braais!

And by some unimaginable irony I was the first to use this one, as they arrived today!

It used to be one of our favorite places for a Sunday outing when we lived at Satara. It is still one of my favorite picnic spots. Used one of THOSE skottels in April . . .
