I could not see any thread on this picnic site...Although I have been there a few times looking over the dam I have not made brunch here before.

Do they also have skottels?

From what I can remember there were not many tables and chairs, any idea about this.

I am planning on having our celebration breakfast at this site as it is close to LSabie and need all the information I can get to hand over to the caterers.

They do have skottles, and there are tables and chairs - but one the few occasions I have been there they have been in great demand!

Good (maybe even the best) choice for a function for 35 .

There is a thatch lookout lapa with plenty of tables and chairs ( and skottels and braais ), so you have protection against rain or heat . We go there many days in December .

It is very popular especialy in high season but not many stay too long so there is always place . I have seen people have functions there .

Possibly send an advance party there , to reserve the 35 chairs and tables by setting them .

We were there in July this year. There were skottles available, but it was quite busy. There was very little water around in the area so there was plenty of game at the water hole in the valley. Well worth a stop, even though it is busy.
Saw lion rhino wildebeest zebra waterbuck kudu impala eagle and more, so I do reccomend it

Unfortunately at the moment the dam is bone dry so not too much to be seen in terms of animals sightings but a lovely spot to stop in at none the less.
Also great for a meal, but better still when it is out of season and if you can vary the time otherwise it can get very over crowded and noisy over peak times.

Was down there in Jan & found it fabulous.I could have spent 2-3 hours there and I'd be lucky if more than 2 persons were there.

Really peaceful affording u the opportunity 2 take in the sights & sounds of the bush.

Same couldn't be said for May when the place was like a flea market.

Nonetheless a magical place and all the cons attached to it wont stop be from going again to pay it a a visit.

If you drive from croc brigde towards lower sabie you get a turn off 1km before lower sabie to your right. It's called the H10. Turn right there. Drive that road for 11km until you get a dirt road crossing. Turn right there. If i can remember correctly there's a sign that says Mlondozi dam. About 3km later you get your turn off to the left. The dam is about 1,5km further.

Nope, I'm with you in the wilderness.... The more and more you guys are pointing this problem out.....I do notice it more often aswell Altough I had no problem in Lower-Sabie itself(camping, not the deck! ).....Mlondozi was too busy for me aswell. In July this year, altough the dam was empty, it unfortunately was sort of a circus there.. No peace and quiet at all.

Problem, I do not want to future the negative on this forum too much...it sounds depressing.

Mlondozi is dry now.......unbelievable

I think if you compare Mlondozi with the likes of Afsaal, Tsokwane and Nkuhlu their is a vast difference. Just the fact that it does not have a shop still makes it special in my mind. It might be busy, but its still got a bit of Kruger magic you now miss at the others.

There is no getting away from the beauty of Mlondozi either. That view is one of the better views I have seen at any of the picnic spots in KNP.

Can anyone else back up this notion that Mlondozi has the best view of the picnic spots?

Unfortunately, I have only ever seen Mlondozi with water in it in photos in this forum. (don't ask where, I cannot even remember breakfast this morning.)

Welcome to the forums! You'll enjoy every minute (they become hours...) spent here.

Mlondozi picnic site is not fenced. I don't think any picnic site in KNP is fenced, except for the day visitor's area close to Skukuza. A part of the magic is scanning the bush for animals and calculating the quickest way to get in your car!!

There mere fact of permanent human presence, keeps the animals away! (Well mostly.) That is why the picknick sites are not fenced. Most animals will avoid humans if given the chance.

Yes, monkeys and birds can become quite a nuisance. Please do not feed them!!!

Once a leopard thought that taking meat from visitors was a good idea. So you never know ...
