Lower Sabie Safari Tents condition

Unread postby stricks26 » Sun Jun 15, 2014 3:03 pm

Hi Everyone,

I have recently booked to stay in the Safari tents in Lower Sabie for January 2015, however I have heard that they are not in very good condition, so a little worried as I chose them because of all the good reports on them :( , can anyone advise if they have stayed in them recently and what they are like as I may consider changing them if the condition is very bad. Can someone please let me know?

Many thanks

We stayed there in Feb and May this year and we were very disappointed in the condition of our tents. In Feb we asked to move to the disabled tent which had an enclosed kitchen as we got so fed up of being raided by the baboons. They sat on the chairs and tables and would turn the kitchen upside down at 4 in the morning, it got very tiresome. The general condition was not great but the views made up for it.

In May we stayed in the tent on the end closest to the walkway and that was awful. The steps were dangerously dilapidated. The first thing I saw was a plastic bag being used to fill a hole int the tent window, the lamps werent working and sparked when you turned them on. The tiling in the bathroom was an absolute bodge job and the shower tap came off in my hand when I turned it on.

They need a lot of work and I was very disappointed. I have however, heard rumours of renovation so hopefully that is true as the tents have the best view in the park!

Thanks Andreab :gflower:

I may think about changing the accommodation, unless anyone can tell me if they know when the tents are being refurbished please?

We stayed in no 27 last week - the condition is not great but I just love it for the fact that it IS rustic and a tent with a nice warm bathroom & some of the cottages we stayed at were a lot worse. 27 is right on the river and we had the most stunning sights and sounds - for me it is very special and you see nobody. It looks like the tent next door - 26 - is brand new and looks bigger - unfortunately I could not have a good look as there were people there the whole time. Try to avoid the ones too close to the restaurant and also too close to the road. For me 27 has the best view

suebfly, I stand to be corrected but I think tent no. 26 was destroyed in a fire a while back and had to be replaced - hence new tent.

Those tents are fabulous - we stayed in no. 16 a while back. It is a great shame that they are not in a good state now and, hopefully, something will be done soon.

My parents stayed in number 17 2 weekends ago and there were quite a few problems. While they were there Rametsa ( camp manager) and other staff were there to inspect. He told them that they are planning to renovate the tents very soon. Some will even be taken down and rebuilt. I will not change my accommodation if I were you. These tents are great ans I'm sure by then most problems will be solved. Looking at how some bungalows have been renovated since Rametsa took over last year, I have hope for the tents.

We stayed in the tents in Jan 2013, and already noticed that their condition is not of the very best.

I honestly hope they upgrade them asap, seeing that it is absolutely wonderfull to stay in them. :D

We stayed in number 16 (right next to the fence) in 2012! The kitchen units and sink area were in bad condition. - the wood was rotten and there was an issue with the kitchen tap. We had a hole in the window of the tent , one of the side lamps didn't work. - we were told they were being upgraded, but it clearly seems nothing has been done. They spin the same story to everyone who complains - must have a standard letter they send out.

My husband has refused to stay there again ......I do miss the view and peace, but we now stay in the river view units.

Thanks Elsa, after reading the other thread regarding the tents I am a little worried that the standard is not fantastic, I have stayed in tents before and I am not expecting Luxury, but I would expect them to be in good repair, I will keep my eye on the forum and then make my decision wether to change a little later in the year.
Would be a pity as I have heard so many great things about the tents too :(
