There is safe parking especially for the wilderness trails folk next to the little office ( I am not sure what they use it for now) and the main road side of the laundry .. there is a lot of parking plenty space for caravans .
Do enjoy and dont forget your yellow ribbon too.

AH THE yellow ribbon. !! you tie a yellow ribbon on your right wing mirror and fellow forumites will spot it and say hello. they too will have a yellow ribbon.. I have made some great friends that way .. Can also tie one on your Binos or hat or on your tent guyrope .. or on anything for that matter.. Val Stephens tied a bright yellow shorts on her car .. I know Elsa has a massive Yellow ribbon so as not to be missed
I am very jealous of your trail which one are you going on. ??

Greetings to all. Have just spent 6 great nights at the camp at wanted to point out one of the benefits that I have not experienced at any other camp. From our unit (27) we were able to see Rhino at the fence on 3 nights - by at the fence I mean literally touching the fence, Elephants twice and while watching Rhino and the lone Hippo feeding at night, we had a Lion walk across the Rhino's and dissapear beyond torch light into the bush. On that day our neghbour had seen Leopard. Were else could you possibly get 4 of the Big 5 at the fence of a "mainstream" camp.

Camp Staff particularly Frank at reception who always helps me with unit allocations were friendly and effecient, except for some of the staff at the shop who appeared to be doing one a favour by serving one.

Looking forward to going back in June....

We also had the pleasure of watching 2 ele bulls grazing around unit 27 while having our lunch, and having a mud bath. On another occasion saw a leopard from the benches near the restaurant after some impala gave the alarm call. Then of course the usual bushbuck... terrapin,.. fish eagle call.... once saw about 10 marabou storks trying to fish the last few barbels from a small puddle. Could go on and on...

The last time I stayed there (in Dec '10) the ellies were also at the fence and seemed a bit irritated as they were trumpeting away- what an amazing sound to hear during the dead of night :)

Could well have been worth it to get up and have a look. Maybe lions or a leopard were looking for an opportunity.

Agree  My SO and I regretted not getting up at Satara one night when we heard lions & hyenas going at it, thought "sound travels far at night" only to find out the next morning it was visible from the fence a little further along the camp grounds

On a later visit to Talamati we were up quick as lightning when we heard lions and were rewarded by a sighting from the hide on the left not to mention the sounds are obviously clearer. I must admit walking around camp at 2am even with a torch was a bit scary! Leopards are not fence-bound... lol

Berg and Dal is indeed teeming with life on the other side of the fence.

In February from bungalow 25 we also saw the rhinos, hippos and leapard twice over one weekend.

This one is for Berg-en-Dal management (Stephen??)

I will be in Berg-en-Dal on the weekend of 8/9 Oct when the RWC quarter finals are being played.
Will I be able to watch the rugby anywhere in the camp? Is Berg-en-Dal planning to show the games? I understand there may be a TV in the bar that could show it; but will the bar be open that early? By my calculation the games will be on at 7am and 9.30am on both days.

Thanks.

Greetings from Berg en Dal :D

We have a TV available in the Bar area at the restaurant. However, we will put up the big screen in our conference hall for all the important matches  . Hopefully they will not be at 05:00 in the morning. If the conference is booked we will resort back to having the bar only available. Anyhow, we will show the rugby as the Boks need all the support they can get.

Hi there Leopard 75..

You are going to enjoy BnD, I am sure.

As a camper, for many years I really resisted staying there much, as I had this "personal block" :wall: about the camp and the area.

However a few years ago, just like you, I was forced by availibility to take a week there. Wow, was my perception changed, and I have kept going back every few months, and now it is always on my agenda.

It is still one of the best managed camps, and has everything for your family to enjoy and relax in the camp.
Go for a self guided walk through the camp.. and find some quiet spot near the fence in a shady area.. to beat the midday heat... and just sit and chill. 8)
and you cant do better than a midnight swim in the pool... its awesome!

Busy Holiday season can be tough while camping and game viewing on the road network nearer the camp is often hampered by heavy vehicle traffic moving to and from the camp.

Oh, and lots of rain is predicted for December, so take your spades and raincoats!
