So jealous of all the mites heading to Tamboti!! It's one of my favourite camps as well!! Stayed in tent nr 24 in June and had a fantastic time! On the first night there we had a visit from the honey badger (just popping from the bushes 2m from us!), the beautiful little genet and a first time sighting of the african civet!! And all 3 of these passing by us within a radius of 2-3m! Very exciting and a little scary as well!

No feeding from our side but I guess others have fed them that they come so close and are rather unafraid of humans. But a very special night right next to our braai indeed! Hope you all have an awesome time there!

Is the carnivore sightings still good there?

Am flirting with extra days in Kruger for August! I am already staying in Tamboti, but I just checked the availability and am surprised at how much is available.. Lower Sabie is all but booked up and seeing as everyone who has been to Tamboti raves about how good it is, I am surprised it is not fully booked even at this early stage!?

Graham, the Skukuza half marathon tends to keep people south that time of the year.

I am always surprised at availability in Tambotie. I do think that it attracts a special breed of "Kruger animal" though. Many people find it just a bit too wild. This is not a camp for sissies.

It is quite far north, so for visitors who have travel from the southern half of S.A., it is not easy to reach on a short trip like an extra long weekend!
But sacrifices must be made!

Yeah I guess it is quite far away. Even Olifants which is further away has less availability. I guess Tamboti's profile is also lowered by the fact it is "merely" a satellite camp!

We have just returned from Kruger and stayed at Tamboti for four nights in No 10 tent which is close to the bathrooms and kitchen and is highly recommended. But BABOONS WATCH OUT YOUR FOOD IS NOT SAFE IN THE TENT. The tent No 9 and 12 were raided every day and the people lost all their food and even the fridges wer cleaned out. When you book in you will be given a pamphlet on detering the baboon problem, follow it. On the veranda there is a lockup cage you can store your food in, one thing take a few 30 or 40 mm locks with you to lock this for your food to be 99% safe. Close all the tent flaps so the baboons can`t see in and if you are still worried keep your food in the car. I observed the baboons know when the camp is least bussy and that in the morning between when most people have left for their drive and before the cleaning staff arrive for duty, and then in the late afternoon before you get back before gate closing time.

And as always I can trust to find the answers I need right here!

We will be at Tambotie in January for the first time, and thanx to all the mites commenting here, I now know to take Baboon proof "roughtotes" to store our food in!

Any other suggestions and warnings regarding Tambotie?

I am sooo looking forward to our trip!

This is good advice for any camp, but leave the gate first! :)

We were first in line and were able to reach the tar road at an easy pace before the traffic from Orpen gate arrived. We were rewarded with wild dog popping out onto the road in front of us and having a fantastic sighting as they trotted along the road, doing what wild dogs do. :)

Thanks Stark! We will certainly make an effort to be first out the gate .... Maybe not every morning!

Hi Larissa :)

It seems the Maroela honey badgers have moved to Tamboti to raid there instead  So be sure not to leave anything outside at night

I echo what Stark said! Be at the gate before opening time you might find it open 10 minutes early or so it gives you a head start on the rest in case there are lions lying in the road  Last June I had a leopard marking his territory in the road without any other cars for a while

My other suggestion is to skip the S36 South of Muzandzeni. The road surface is quite bad. Rather pick alternative roads

Take a powerful spotlight for shining into the riverbed at night if you hear a sound! There are all sorts that walk in the riverbed :D

You probably won't like Tam LarissaVW. :naughty:

No shop.
No pool.
No restaurant.
No microwave.
Lots of bush for the big and hairy to hide ( and I am not referring the ladies north of the Apies river here  ) and surprise you as you do the long walk to the loo.

:) Larrissa, you can not go wrong to stay at Tamboti :)

:w: :w: All the things the Mites refer to, is true.
8) We stay in Tamboti up to 7 days at a time and the sightings in the area are Magic (Tamboti to Satara) The problems with Monkeys, Baboons and Badgers (Now and again snakes) is what makes TAMBOTI :great: :great:

Hey Phil, don't you want to go there again? :naughty:

If you 'talk Tam up' it will become too popular and you won't get a booking.

The view from the hide is very overgrown and poor.
The hide is a loooong walk in the dark.
