Hi Forumites

Something I forgot to ask when I returned from my trip in Jan, but remembered last night on the way home when I went through a speed trap.

On entering the park through Paul Kruger gate in Jan this year, I noticed something similar to one of those stone camp distance markers (but on both sides of the road not even 1 km from the gate), it had a glass window with what looked like a camera of some sort inside it.

Can anyone please tell me what this is? Car counter, speed trap?

Would love to know.

Glen79 we saw it as well and I also forgot to mention it  We also debated about it being a counter or a speedtrap...needless to say we did not try going at a faster speed to see if it flashed :D

They are security surveilance cameras similar to the ones in J0'BURG CBD etc.

The logic is that the locals from Hazyview that regularly pull off a heist in Skukuza camp , will be photographed for later evidence / conviction . They probably will become features of the entrance gates too , as they have held up the guards a few times already .

Nope, it's a real speed camera, Sawubona posted a few nice pics of it in another thread. Don't know where the topic is under though :hmz:

Under - Forum Indaba - Speeding in the park.

GS, Not 100% sure if it is for speeding, could also be as Mike said for surveilliance.

There are 2 of these, one closer to Skukuza camp. We wondered if they checked how long it took you to get from one to the other, if you got to the 2nd one too quick you got a speeding fine, but decided that wouldn't work in the park as you can speed in between sightings but stop at the sightings and thereby not get from one camera to the other too fast and still be caught speeding?
