A couple years back had the most amazing sighting at Nhlanganzwani lookout point just off the S28. A cheetah mum and her two cubs. Will never forget it, boiling hot day and didn't expect to see much on the drive! Right time, right place

This last weekend 4 male lions had brought down a giraffe on the powerline road that runs a few km after entering the S28 from LS side. Never got to see it but heard about it. Did get to see a male lion on the northern part of the road a few kms short of the tar. Cheetah were regularly sighted if the sighting boards are anything to go by. Rhino almost always seen as well as your general game.

I was priviledged to see the famous/infamous cheetah in the tree sighting last August where a leopard had had a scuffle with a cheetah over an impala kill made by the cheetah. The leopard ended up killing the cheetah and then proceeded to hoist both the impala and the hapless cheetah into a fever tree just a few hundred metres north of the Shishangeni Lodge turn-off. I guess it was a sighting that I probably won't get to see in my lifetime again. So this road will always have a special memory for me.

Donny that is one of the craziest sightings I have ever heard of!

Is the s28 in your opinion a better option than the H4-2?

From a sightings point of view I would say personally the H4-2 has been very kind to me in the past with Big 5 on many occasions as well wild dog but no cheetah. Depending on the season I'd say S28 a good road for the summer as the H4-2 can be get really thick and not much to see unless its like really close to the road.
So I prefer the tar but the S28 does great sightings of the grazers and cheetah.

Lucky enough to see cheetah unsucessfully attempting a warthog hunt last August not far off from Nhlanganzwane turn-off. Big 5 seen on this road often too so for me its a seasonal decision.

For me this is one of my favourite drives in the south east of the park. I once saw a group of 5 Cheetah on this road. I also saw Duke on this road when he still had both tusks intact. Lions and Leopards have also been on my list for this road.

I think the chances of finding Cheetah are far better on the S28 than the H4-2.

We have had several sightings of them there but none on the tar road.

Hi Elsa, I agree with you that you stand a better chance of spotting Cheetah on the S28 versus the H4-2. This got my mind working and I remembered that about 10 years ago I had the good fortune of seeing a Cheetah cross the H4-2 near were the barrage is situated on the Sabie river. And that is my only sighting of a Cheetah on the H4-2.

Never seen cheetah on the H4-2, only lion & leopard, but the S28 is a good cheetah and (on night drives) serval road.

I've seen more cheetah on the H4-2 vs the S28. Think 9 in total vs just 2 on the S28 (alive) and 1 (not so alive ...slung in a tree by a leopard).

I drove this road a couple of times at the end of December. And the bush is LUSH LUSH LUSH Beautiful road!! At this time of the year it definately beats the H4-2 because on the H4-2 you can only see a metre or 2 into the bush!! Very dense. Saw plenty of general game on the s28 and it looks promising as if something good is coming along

One of the most reliable roads in the Park, in my experience!

Once again, it is quite long and the Nothern half has quite different soil and vegetation compared to the Southern.

Did see black rhino at Mhlanganzwane Dam, but no cheetah that I can recall!

Plenty big 5 though, and the nice thing is the visibility is often fine compared to roads further West!

Strange, I have never found cheetah on the S28, but 6 in total on the H4-2. My timing must be off on the S28.

Well on previous occasions and especially the last 4 occasions I had cheetah twice, leopard 3 times, and lion. But now on this sunday after it was burnt the previous week, nothing!!

Something I find interesting is that I found all the lions on the southern end(CB side) while the leopards all have been a few km's from the LS side. The cheetah I found between the hide and the duke waterhole.

But this has to be one of the best roads in the park! Had a herd of 400+ buffalo on a night drive. Found Duke on this road as well.

One negative of the road is that it is becoming very popular! Counted 20 cars that came SPEEDING past me on sunday, and then I stopped at the hide to take a breather from all the dust!!!!

But like the S100 I will drive it as often as I can!
