Yep! I knew it was way too easy....

It was just a detail from the dam:

Does anyone who visited recently or who is currently visiting have any updates regarding sightings at the Engelhardt dam and the water level of the dam?

What are the steps in front of Engelhart dam for?

Unread postby Wildkyker » Tue Feb 04, 2014 9:24 am

While visiting Kruger last Dec 2013 I stopped at the Engelhart dam and saw a kind of step formation where the water flows down, and wondered what it is used for? :hmz:

On the far side of this picture there kind of a staircase going up the dam wall

I did see the same step type formation at the Kanniedood Dam wall

Now I know they use these tipe of formation for Salmon to get up and over dam walls for spwaning up river. But could it be for the same reason? :hmz:

These are fish ladders. They make it possible for the fish to migrate upstream.

Thanks dsdrake and Wildkyker.
That is very interesting.
I'll look out for them on dam walls in future!

The stairs are used by the water droplets that are not into adrenalin sports like hurling themselves over the wallImage
