I have seen a few white rhino on this road, and a DCG and a gymnogene!

Doggies, no, but just off it south of Afsaal once, but I would not ride it as a 'hot' road.

First night is in Skukuza. So, options are either:

Numbi: Really don't enjoy the drive from Pkop area. That road (Can't think of the H no at the moment) has never been productive for me.

Melalane: Nearest to Jhb.

Phabeni: Always been a productive road, but am not keen on driving through Nelspruit/White River with the roadworks. Would rather spend the additional time in the Park than in traffic outside.

Thanks
Yoda

For me the H3 is a sizzling HOT road especially on exiting!! :hmz:

Herewith some sightings we had before exiting at Malelane:

And herewith a special sighting we had when we entered at Malelane:

During the past years we have seen leopards, rhinos and ellies on the H3. Kwaggaspan on the H3 is also a winner with great sightings of lions, etc, etc!

The H3 is a HOT road for us indeed!!

Never had much luck on this road in the past 6 years. :wall:
We had some nice sightings on it of some rhino, Ellies, Giraffe etc, but no really WhoW sightings. :hmz:
Who knows. Maybe in March I shall be just as lucky as Theuns.

Today on a 'business' trip to Skukuza the road gave us zebs, wildebeest, warties, dwarf mongoose, banded mongoose, slender mongoose, impala, giraffe, ellies, cheetah and leopard. - We were not even looking out for animals as time was tight!

I have been on this road- seen ellies, rhino, lions, giraffe, impala etc, but never any great  sightings....

Any tips on how to persuade the boss that Skukuza is a business trip would be most welcome.

Some people have all the luck. :sniper:

I shall travel this road in Spetember this year at least once.

It does help if they also work in Kruger!!!!! And if their office is based at Malelane and they have to go to Skukuza for meetings etc........!

This main road in Kruger always amazes me in many ways and two of these ways are that it is busy and some drivers speed. But on this road we have also had some of out best sightings - seen a Leopard-in-Tree close to the Berg-en-Dal Camp turn-off and one early morning an Eagle who has just caught a Steenbok whilst a magnificent leopard was walking straight to us from the other side of the car. I am not sure what to make of this road as I go from this :D to this   to this :rtm: to this  and :hmz:  in no particular order on the same drive.

It is a hit or miss road :D
Certainly one of the top leopard and wild dog roads in the Park 8) Other times very quiet

We also had a couple of leopard sightings on this road, saw lions twice, Hyena's in the road, cheetah lying under a bush but walked off as almost MILLIONS of cars gathered to get a glimpse. Have not been fortunate enough to see Wild dog though. I know they were quite busy in the Afsaal area last year December.

It's a nice road with scenic views but in our experience the most sightings happen south of Afsaal. We like to drive this road though, but I also wouldn't rate it as a 'HOT' road. Maybe during early mornings but the moment the cars start racing towards Skukuza and Tshokwane for a so called 'picnic' in the bush, it all starts to deteriorate! :wall: :wall:

This is one of the Highways in the park and I avoid it if I can.
Not in Kruger.... Busy planning the next trip...

The coolest thing about the road is that it is nearest to Joburg 8)
The Malalane leopard is always thereabouts near the gate!
Over the last week or so mating lions near Afsaal daily 8)
And Lion and Leopard sightings at the S113 junction

If you are going to the Park now, it is worth taking the S113 then S114 up to Skuks. Leopard and Wild Dog sightings there these days

Thanks for the info Cheetah2111.

Yes we saw the Malelane Leopard about 500m from the gate on our way home! Nice way to end a Kruger holiday!
