Dear all webcammers

Quick update on Satara and Orpen webcam status:

We are still not really closer to a solution apart from the efforts from the telecoms service provider working on the comms problems to these two sites (Orpen and Satara). :wall:

Anybody available to put oprical fibre in all the way to Orpen/Satara - that will only cost a few million rand

Will give you an update soon again! Let us hope it will be a postivie update! :D

Happy camming for now (Addo and Nossob) :D

Dear Webcammers

.... I have heard a cure for these withdrawal symptoms is to visit one of our parks in person!

 Going on Sunday  it was booked before the flooding, and sadly not going to Orpen or Satara, but it will be interesting to see how the park has coped.

Thx Danie for the background info. It makes one realise what is actually happening behind the scenes, as well as what it actually takes to make things happen - things most of us take for granted! All the best in tackling the problems head-on and for your mopping up operations. KNP is and will always remain a great place. See you in Jul-Aug and can't wait!

Hi Danie
Thanks for explaining. I came back from a trip eager to the cams... But I surely understand! Hope everything goes well with the communication system!

Cheers

Feedback from telecom service provider as at 13:00 today (31 Jan 2012):
  • Satara - telecom service provider waiting for spares to fix the poor quality of the line
  • Orpen - there is a power supply problem to one of the telecoms service provider's UMC's on the link to Orpen (not at Orpen)

We are driving them really hard to get this fixed! :wall:

This is so fascinating. Enjoyed reading the long explanation. Many thanks for sharing. In IT myself and understand all these changes and enormous cost to upgrade. All I can add is: NO masts if at all possible.
Good luck.

How come that we can see all cams here

http://sanparks.mobi/webcams/all/

but not on the 'normal' website?

Not that I'm complaining about having Orpen and Satara back...

Just curious.

Lionspoon maybe because it is the mobile site.
There a less people who visit it because mainly you view it by mobilephone.....so probably no reason to take it offline.....so you have found it too.
But it is an official site from SANParks, so it will stay online.

Orpen has just come back online since early this morning.... 8)
Satara has been offline the whole day Yesterday...... :wall:

Exactly, so I thought sharing with the other cam addicts won't hurt. :D
