Hello all,

This is my first post and I guess that the question I have has already been answered but I can't find it!

What is the bird that sits on the post under the Addo cam? He/she is so patient!

Hi sun bird :D

Welcome to the forums. The bird is a brownhooded kingfisher.

Thank you so much Toko :P

I never realised that kingfishers could be nocturnal!

Learning so much about the wildlife of South Africa. Roll on September for the second (and hopefully not the last) Kruger visit.

Wow - you are looking forward to a Kruger trip  Look out for a Brown-hooded kingfisher there as well.

Image

This kingfisher can be seen very often there perching on the post scanning the ground for food. They do not feed on fish but eat mainly insects and lizards. Males have black feathers on the shoulder, the females being brown. So I think our kingfisher is a male. The cam watchers named him KIBO.

So lovely to see one in colour.

We saw so many birds this year in the Kruger (and all the game you could wish for). I can't believe we're so excited already about the trip. Bridging the gap with webcams...............

Hey Vaughng, cheetahs are rarely seen on the cams. Here are two pics of the Nossob Cam:

Don't use the attachment option! It doesn't work! Well, it does, but only for a day, no more.
You are goin g to have to do the uploading to a server and paste the link route.
