Just read through this thread, all 13 pages

Thanks to everyone for posting and updating us. I saw a zebra laying very still next to the waterhole during the day yesterday and didn't have a chance to look again, couldn't believe when I found this thread!

Jungle Junkie, where did you post the frames of the final action with the hyenas? Can't find it on the webcams or Orpen webcam threads.

i would doubt that the hyena ate the carcass there. and i remembered it being moved alot further out. interesting stuff though. and i missed it :doh:

You've got a good point there, but most people are blissfully unaware of the, sometimes, harsh reality of nature! To see it firsthand, so to speak, can be shocking to the senses of some and to the "anti-death" nature of others. We all cheer for a kill, but when it happens, it is less exciting because of the knowing that a life has just ended. As Paul Newman said when he finally won his first Oscar after many nomination: "It's like chasing a beautiful woman for 80 years. Finally, she relents and you say, 'I'm terribly sorry. I'm tired'".
It's like that with a kill, or similar; when you see it in reality, the actual experience is different from the imagined one.

I think that is a piece of wood. If you look at photos while the carcass was still whole, you'll see what looks like the same piece of wood, turned a different way. Maybe someone had a waddle in the mud and moved it.

I always have mixed emotions about a kill...never seen one up close & for real,
don't really think I would like to see one....I hate it when I see my cats kill birds or mice....
