Wondering if the Hyenas have not dragged the Zebra carcass into the longer grass, unless its just the way the light is. :?

SZ, basically it was a long wait until just after dark when at least 4 or 5 Hyenas turned up and it would seem totally demolished the carcass from what I can see in a short while.
But I have also had intermittent viewing so can someone verify that that was indeed what has happened tonight.

I missed the whole show, but a memorable sighting whichever way you look at it. Interesting how nature follows a certain course, and even if we don't agree with it sometimes, nothing is ever wasted or, indeed, wrong!

Thanks for posting the outcome cammers!!! I couldn't last the distance - and I'm pleased I didn't try because if I'd waited for the action, I'd have been up all night

Could you perhaps show us how to push a button for a future page? That way we could see the sighting before it happens. :hmz: 8)

I had to log out just after foal was taken from the water and the warties started sniffing around....wake up this morning, and am quite amazed at how quickly the hyenas cleaned up the body  Do they eat everything? Or will there be morsels left over for other cleanup crew members?

One Hyaena came in first and devoured the Zebra in about 10 mins.

Then the rest, another 3 or 4 joined in, looking for scraps, but No.1 did not leave much over. In the sequence, you can see the Zebra carcass getting smaller and smalller with each 30 seconds cam shot, until not a stripe is visible . .

I posted virtually every frame of the final action for the cammers who either did have connection or had to go to bed, as requested. Did not think that it would be a problem for mites to go thru the pages!

JJ

@Danie - Thanks for zooming in and following the Hyaenas into the long grass for us to watch

Just could't get a viewpoint on the webcam from about 15h00 then caught a glimpse of the undertaker then nothing and then when the first hyena arrived I shut down - won't mention a word about productivity in the office  but will catch up on Monday. It is not everyday that people from all over the world connect because of a little zebbie :) Danie - thank you  for going that extra mile to accommodate the forumites and thank you to your staff  for removing the carcass from the water - even if it was for the sake of our emotions - it is appreciated. We also know that you didn't have zebbie stew for supper last night

Have been off line for a couple of days and this is the first thread I have gone through. Just been through the last 12 pages. Thank you Danie and all the mites for bringing the bush into our homes, even though it is such a sad story. Even though it is so sad, I also enjoyed the black humour.

It is hard to take some people seriously.....I am being serious for a change.

This type of scenario plays out dozens of times each day in the greater 'bush'. Why all the emotion? Just because we see it once?

Africa is not for sissies.
