Hello. Just wondering if the animals in this grainy pic could be wild hunting dogs? That would be so cool!!

I'm new here. This website and forum is fantastic!

Thanks.

Oops Melph, did not come out.

If its the same as the highlight that you posted on the Satara cam, then it looks like a family group of Hyena. I notice that the time of this posting is way different to the time of the highlight, so maybe I am looking at the wrong picture.

Hi Melph68, welcome to the forum. I think they are indeed wild dog if you look at the white spots. I also know that there is a group of wild dogs that has been seen on several occasions in the Orpen area. Great spotting

Hi there. Sorry Meandering Mouse. It took me a few attempts to upload the picture correctly....

And thanks for the wild dog verification Droopy :)

I am actually home sick from work today, which is why I have been able to watch the cams nearly all night (we're about 8 hours ahead here in Oz, so it's now 2.30pm in the afternoon).

Here is another really cool pic. Could it be a lion?

Thanks again.

PS: I think I'm in the wrong forum? I wanted to go to the Animal ID one...

Yes, I have just seen the photo and indeed they are Wilddogs :D

Stunning sighting. 8)
I wonder if this is a first.
What a night you have had.

The second actually looks like a Leopard to me.

Melph68, welcome to the forum and to the webcams! :D Highly addictive, but great fun! 8)

Thanks for capturing these great shots! I'd go with wild dogs in the first one, the legs seems thinner than those of a hyena. Leopard on the second one me thinks too.

You can find both your pics posted on the Orpen Cam Highlights thread

And I also put them in the Orpen Cam 05/08/2009 thread. However, this link will only work until tomorrow. Afterwards you'll find the pics in here.

I don't visit the cams too often , so MODS or regular cam watchers - could this be a first or have seen wild dogs on cam before ??

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

Yes, Lionspoon - it's official. I'm addicted to the cams. I read some wonderful books on Africa a little while ago, then I found these cams and now I can't stop watching! I started off just wanting to sight the "big 5" and then I would quit, but now I want to see everything!

I am so thrilled to have seen wild dogs and a leopard in one night - from the other side of the world. That is so cool 8)

This will be a record hard to beat....................

in one night

Wilddogs
Leopard
Family of Hyena adults and pups caught on Satara cam and posted in hightlights.

I do not think anyone has ever, ever had that kind of start

Melph, you've done it again  Honey Badger at Satara.... and what a stunning view. 8) If this is not enough to get you addicted, nothing will. I wonder if you have any idea how rare some of these sightings are.... well until you poped in, that is

Hi MM,

yes, I nearly knocked my computer off the table in my excitement and haste to copy the HB image before it disappeared in the next frame :D

I am absolutely "stoked" as we Aussies say, to have made the sightings I have. :D :D

Alas, I will be fit to return to work tomorrow so my cam watching time will be greatly reduced. :( It's been the best fun I've ever had stuck at home sick in bed!

Until next time, happy sightings to you all, melph
