Hi there,

I just looked at the pictures of the past couple of days and was wondering about the animal spotted at Satara by sammy on Saturday, 10 Jan. 09 at 1.33 a.m. (page 30 of the Jan. sightings). Unfortunately I don't know how to insert the picture here :?

What kind of cat was that - a serval?

And also at Satara - on Thursday, 8 Jan. between 8.17 and 8.29 (pages 22 and 23), wasn't that a whole family of lions?? Just wondering because nobody commented on the sightings!

Greetings from a freezing cold, icy, snowy Germany
Kate

My first impression is that that is a jackal.

Hi Imberbe and Matthys,

thanks for the ID!

And the other pic (there are quite a few others as well) - that IS a lion family with little ones, isn't it?

Great! Thanks for spotting them, Ceazer, Spotted Cat and Soom!!

By the way - has anyone else noticed that the buffalos never seem to have any young ones with them? I wonder why that is??

Of the top of my head, I have mostly seen Duggaboys. That is small groups of mature males, that do not keep with the herds. These small watering points are probably more suited to them, than for the big herds.

But that is just a first thought ...
