I agree 100% that is a Lark-Like Bunting. The horn coloured top of the bill, with the lighter lower mandible is a good pointer.

I seem to have missed this post. I agree that this one is a Lark-like Bunting.

Some more "mystery birds" from my recent KTP trip:

First, are these (3 different birds) perhaps lark-like buntings?

All three seen on 19 February 2010 in KTP.

These that I posted last week appear to have been overlooked. Can anyone help with ID of these? All seen on 19 February 2010 in KTP.

And meanwhile, just to further confuse matters   there's this little birdie, seen at the same time as those confusing yellow canaries. But this one I was thinking was a larklike bunting?

Very similar to the female yellow canary, but instead of the streaking on the breast, it has a cinnamon/rose wash.

Thanks Batmad and RJ. Here's another one I'm puzzling over. I'm thinking that the bird on the right is again a larklike bunting, but what about the one on the left? Seen in KTP in March 2010.

A common, yet very easily overlooked bird in the Karoo.
