Kestrel, Greater

Unread postby Johan van Rensburg » Mon Mar 24, 2008 12:04 pm

Greater kestrel yes, juvenile no... it is the adult that sports the light eye... the juvenile has the dark eye.

 Here is one example, not juvenile, but neither fully adult... showing the transition from dark eye lightening up. You can also see the beak features deefstes refers to

It's an adult greater kestrel , Tilandi. If you zoom in , you can even see the pale eye , which no other falcon has....

Cheers ,
Jon

Hi Wingman,

I'd also agree with Greater Kestrel. Apparently there are records of this bird ocurring in Kruger as a vagrant.
