Advice Needed

Unread postby Gemma T » Tue Jun 26, 2012 9:30 pm

Hi
I was hoping I could get some advice please.

A colleague of mine is thinking about making his first trip to SA. His interest is in photographing birds, so I have suggested he will probably be most interested in the North of Kruger.

The only real drawback he has is that he doesn't drive....so I'm looking at getting advice about places where he can indulge his love of photographing birds but not be staying on a self drive.

If anyone can give some advice it'd be most welcome.
Thanks :D

I think the Northern Camps all do drives and or walks, so he could book some of those.
Also the camps themselves have many birds in them, so a walk around them several times a day will find plenty.

I am no expert, and there may well be better options.............I'm sure other people will advise.

When is he thinking of visiting?

Not sure Val, he came to chat to me at work today as he knows I love Kruger. But birds are not a subject I know much about.

Northern Kruger in summer is awesome. He may have to go with a guided tour, which can be very frustrating if you are in a bus full of people who only care about the big and scary animals. I suggest he find a tour group that focuses specifically on birds, (you know birds of a feather flock together  ) Google around. There are many tour operators in kruger, but not many who are specifically birding orientated.

Actually he should look into birding trips into the North.
It is totally chockfull of birds, so fora like SAbirding, the Honorary Rangers and many other arrange birding trips in that area.
(I hope he can stand birders.... )

I am sort of guessing that JvR will pop in here, if not I'll give him a heads-up.
