While in Kgalagadi in March I caught this interaction between a young Bateleur and a Tawny.
First they srapped over a bone or something then moved to the carcass were a further stand-off ensued.

I photographed this adult last week in the Kgalagadi. He started by bending forward and then stretches upright while giving a call. This happened for about 3 minutes and then just a few minutes later a younger bird joined him on the ground. We watched them for about 30 minutes drinking.

Hi all

Please could someone help me identify this raptor, seen in the Crocodile Bridge area in 2008?
At first I thought it was a juvenile White-Headed Vulture, but not sure ...

Short wedge-shaped tail, broad head.

Looks like an immature Bateleur.

Just for interest sake.

We located, what I would estimate to be about 5years (it takes 7 to 8 years for them to obtain the adult plumage!) old, Bateleur in Nelspruit on Saturday morning. A first record for it in Pentad 2525_3100 and by no means a common bird outside Kruger! All of us present rather enjoyed that rare sighting.
