Punda Mania Team Birding Challenge this past weekend yielded a few new birds. My new total is 290, amongst other Senegal Coucal, Arnot's Chat and Stierling's Wren-Warbler.
It was seriously lekker, very, very hot and loooong hours but more than worth it!
Our team, the Beer Swilling Bustards, of which Niall was also a member, came second in this fun event organized by the West Rand Honorary Rangers.

Brenden - those are excellent sightings . Can we coax some more details or even a trip report out of ypu ?

The Yellow Wagtail was at Mooiplaas Windmill this past weekend. I was guiding a group of birders at the annual Balule Bash (Honarary Ranger event). Perhaps we can expect a thread from Johan van Rensburg or Waterbuck, guests at this exciting event.

Yip very funny indeed, we saw it at the low water bridge - Skukuza at 13h00 in the afternoon!
Got a very crappy shot. Johann pulled away just as I took 2 shots, moaning about all the traffic piling up behind us! This one was the better of the two..

Hi Guys,

I would like to join in here if I may?

A bit of background first.
I used to be hugely into birding when I was growing up (teens). My friends while I was growing up were all into cars and other "boy" stuff, and I was into birdwatching. I was told (read - teased) on many occassions that I wasn't cool. Anyhow, it didn't really bother me, I carried on regardless.
After I went to uiniversity, I stopped birding, mainly due to lack of time.
All subsequent trips to Kruger, and other game reserves, and I never really was interested.

Fast forward to December 2013.
6 night trip to Kruger.
Don't know why, but my interest was suddenly rekindled on this past Kruger trip.
I didn't stop at every LBJ, but did show interest.

Unfortunately, my mom moved flat some years ago, and disposed of all my bird books. (I bought a few ones in December). So I don't have all my notes and records.

But having said all that. Went through my trip notes this weekend.
My Kruger list from my past trip is 86

I still need to see what else I found that would be new for the Park over the weekend, but for now I can add:

Three-banded Courser
Senegal Coucal
Dickinson's Kestrel
Peregrine Falcon
Grey-rumped Swallow
Tambourine Dove

356

I suspect that Icterine Warbler, Common House-Martin and Red-collared Widowbird will also be new.
