Arks I would say Yellow-Fronted Canary.

Lemon Breasted Canaries are quite restricted in their habitat and range and they only occur within Mozambique and around Crooks Corner near Pafuri.

I'm thinking that this one is a longbilled crombec? Seen at Mapungubwe in April 2012.

Two birds that may be impossible to ID from the very few — and very far away — pix that I have :wall:

First, this little bird, seen in Leokwe camp, Mapungubwe, on 13 April 2012. I think that it is a female Melba finch? (My other guess would be female Swee waxbill, but it doesn't appear to have any yellow on its belly.)

I saw this second 'mystery bird' at Marakele in early April 2012. Is it possibly a house martin (or is it really impossible to tell)?

Hi Arks

I would say your first ID is correct with Melba Finch (Green Winged Pytilia). Swee Waxbill's habitat revolves more around forest edges and plantations.

Difficult to really say with conviction that the second one is a Common House Martin. But eliminating Grey Rump Swallow is easy as it should be more slender and have a deeply forked tail. Pearl Breasted Swallow does not have a pale rump. GOing with those eliminations, I would say yes it looks like a House Martin

Wingman it's a male White-bellied Bustard. Very nice sighting!

Agreed.

Very special to get photo's of them Wingwam, they are quite uncommon and very shy, so not easy to get photo's of them..

Well done

Thanks for the confirmation, it was a lucky shot I was going mountain biking and left the big camera at home but always carry a panasonic point and shoot in the cubby hole when these birds walked across the road in front of us 2 adults and a youngster.

Is this, as I think it is, a (female) southern black tit? See at Mapungubwe on 14 April 2012.

Hi all........ I've been very bad with getting to the forum lately and I am trying to catch up. Just been going through my photo's of a recent Kruger trip so that I can put up a trip report. In the process I came accross this pic taken in the reed-bed at Shimuwini. For the life of me I can't remember any details of the sighting let alone the call of the bird. But perhaps with some help I can get an ID. Immediate feeling is Tawny Flanked Prinia, but I am not 100%. Please help if you can.......
