After having returned from KTP Wednesday, I have a few images to share. Here is a Juvenile Pale Chanting Goshawk that was hunting in the river bed.

Camera Nikon D4
Exposure 1/3200 sec
Aperture f/10.0
Focal Length 600 mm
ISO Speed 800
Exposure Bias -1 EV

I chose to underexpose by -1 to drive up the shutter speed as I was shooting at F/10.0 to ensure I get the wings in focus. ISO 800 is my standard ISO setting in the D4.

I tried out my new D800 on this Swallow tailed Bee-eater. At a 36Meg file at full frame it eats up disc space. The added bonus is to be able to shoot in camera at 1.2 or 1.5 crop mode and still achieve a file in excess of 16 Meg. In hind sight I should have take the aperture to f/11 or f13 to achieve focus on the tail. I still like the pose though.

Camera Nikon D800
Exposure 1/5000 sec
Aperture f/8.0
Focal Length 600 mm
ISO Speed 800
Exposure Bias -1 EV

We spent some time with these magnificent birds. It proved quite a challenge to get decent shots of the very fast birds.

Model: NIKON D4
Lens (mm): 600
ISO: 800
Aperture: 8
Shutter: 1/6400
Exp. Comp.: -0.7
Program: Aperture Priority

Thank you very much for your kind comments Anne-marie and OWN. Next up is the Swallow-tailed Bee-eater. These guys nest on a hole in the sandy banks on the side of the road. So next time you do a 3 point turn look closely for the tennis ball sized holes in order not to collapse the tunnel.

Camera Nikon D4
Exposure 1/5000 sec
Aperture f/11.0
Focal Length 600 mm
ISO Speed 800
Exposure Bias -1/3 EV

I'm sure those of you visiting the arid parks have spent time at the waterholes trying to shoot the Sandgrouse coming in to land or taking off. Many many shots may deliver a few keepers. I share this one with you. I try use an smaller aperture to ensure I get the whole bird in focus. This does mean you loose shutter speed, hence the -2/3 underexposure and the higher ISO to try and maintain a decent shutter speed.

Camera Nikon D4
Exposure 1/2500 sec
Aperture f/10.0
Focal Length 600 mm
ISO Speed 800
Exposure Bias -2/3 EV
