Excuse me if this is too simple to be true...I think this is a Great Sparrow, but my book says "uncommon resident", so I want to know if it's really a House Sparrow "very common resident". Taken at Grootkolk in Oct.

Yes, definitely a Great Sparrow. The white patch above and in front of the eye and the tawny patch from behind the eye to the neck that is seperated from the rufous shoulders by a grey collar is diagnostic.

Have seen them in Nossob also.
