If it's any consolation, I doubt more than 10% of my bird club have seen it.

But then, we're a JHB - based club...

Amazing how few people actually bother answering these quizzes.

We have until Sunday night to submit, don't we? :hmz:

Thank you to all of you that participated, some as far afield as Switzerland and the New South Africa (Australia!) and some from my own suburb in Johannesburg!

No. 8 caused the main problem for the group, possibly because of a poor choice of photo on my part, and possibly because the site gobbled up the pic on the second or third day. It seems that the replacement pic was a lot clearer, as several of you managed an ID after that.

I don't have the knowledge to get you an in-depth explanation of what each bird's attributes are, but if you care to take the names to your favourite field guide, you'll soon see where (if) you went wrong.

BTW
Many of you seem to have mastered - or are busy mastering - the name changes, so well done!

The name/s after the bird's name are the people credited with the pic. Thanks to all of them for their contribution...

Put pic no.6 to the right of the BB pic and you will see the parent feeding the interloper...

Good idea.

Green Malkoha fairly common north of Eshowe and common in Mozambique. Both areas in the Southern Africa Birding area.

All birds in these quizzes are - or should be! - found in our local field guides...

Collins field guide of SA
Sasol Birds SA
Roberts but mine is KNP one

Will have to widen my searches next time. :)

Looking forward to the next one

I think Sushin is right.

This bird is a green-billed malkoha which occurs in asia.

According to the SASOL (page 239), the green malkoha has a yellow bill and green upperparts.

I cannot access the first pic, but I accept the contention and will be a lot more careful with the next batch of pics.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention..

Ducklings #41

Some hazy, some imperfectly focussed pics this week to add reality to the challenge. Instead of a BB, I have gone with a C-Bird for a change, easily seen on a Cape Town pelagic trip...
