African Yellow White-eye

Unread postby Lizet Grobbelaar » Mon Jul 06, 2009 2:05 pm

African Yellow White-eye Zosterop senegalensis
Distribution: In South Africa we’ve only seen them in the Northern Parts of KZN. This photo was taken in Mkhuze Game Reserve.
They occur in a variety of woodland and forest habitat, as found in the Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe and close to the Zambezi River in Mozambique.
Upper parts are a very pale green to yellow.
Under parts are a bright yellow with no sign of green, as found in Cape White-eye.

Can also be seen in the far north of Kruger. I saw my first during our BBW in 2006 at Crooks' Corner.
Have also heard it calling at the Pafuri picnic site and along the river drive. Frank has recorded it a few times at the picnic site.

Nice shot Lizet.

Thanks guys!
It's nice keeping things interesting.

Thanks Johan,
Will keep a look out next time. I've also seen Tamborine Dove at the Pafuri picnic area, it's really a promising place for rare sightings...
