Bush Baptist, you mean this Palmthrush?

Image
(sorry couldn't help myself!!!)
Unfortunately we didn't get any pics of Grey Kestrel...

Habitat:Resident on the western parts of the Cunene River in Northern Namibia. Riverine shrub and palm savanna.
Upper parts: Crown and back rufous with a very distinctive rufous upper tail.
Under parts: Pale throat and belly
Eyes are a deep red.
Very shy secretive bird with a beautiful melodious call.

Hi Lizet...managed to track it down by its lovely call.
Spent hours watching a pair amongst many other birds in the riverine vegatation before the one decided to fly off into Angola.
Had a good sighting of this bird but missed finding Grey Kestrel...now where did you find it??
What a lovely area - also loved the huge flocks of Madagascar Bee-eaters - a real summer treat!

o-dog,
I saw my first Kestrel on a pilon just where the tarred road from Ruacana turn dirt. But that's not the classic place to find them, they like the same palm habitat as the palmthrush and many people see them a bit future west in the palms next to the river

The very one Lizet

We saw ours in the grounds of the lodge we camped at, and the Kestrel on the booze cruise!
