Spotted a few of these in a little forest reserve in Ballito.

After hunting for them high and low in Dlinza forest and only getting a quick view of one on our last morning, it was great getting a close look at them now.

We saw one in the Soutpansberg in June last year. Unfortunately it seemed to misjudge its landing in a thorn tree and injured itself. It crashed to the ground . That was late one afternoon and sadly the next morning the ants were having a feast

Hey Mr Tambourine man was this at the Waterberry Coffee shop - forrest walk in Ballito? I will be there in Dec and hope to spot it.

It was swampie. But i never spotted them during the normal coffee-shop hours. When you go organise with the ladies there to go in at 6-6:30 AM when thier baking staff arrives, you have the forest all to yourself and the birds are much more active then.

I had a breif sighting of one of these guys up at Pafuri...as i looked into the sky scanning it for raptors there i saw a dove fly past...i quikly dropped my binos and managed to see the distinctive white belly and new it was a tambourine dove!

Seen this lovely bird around Hoedspruit just outside KNP.

Plenty in Natal as well. I might get into to trouble for this but was working up at research centre in one of the parks for a couple of weeks and around the last day someone brought in an injured TD. It had flown into a fence and think its wing was broken. I couldn't just leave it to die at night so took it in are tried to care for it. It wasnt eating much or drinking. So when I flew back to Cape Town I smuggled it in my pocket on a Kulula flight. Then once cleared through customs I put it in my video camera bag keeping it warm with toilet paper. Then every 30mins or so checked on it during the flight praying it wasnt going to start cooing. After a mini adrenalin rush arrived I Cape Town and handed it into World of Birds just before closing. Never phoned to check up on it but they were happy as it was there first one and it was recevied in relatively good health. WOuld like to know what happened to it....should phone someday!

We had our first ever sighting during our Kruger trip in January….. 17 January
on the S50 (Kanniedood road) near Shinwedzi. Sadly, it was almost impossible to get a good photo…it was still early in the morning, overcasts and the birds were quite far from us.

I see these doves every now and then along the Luvuvhu (northern bank), both in the ecotone between Fever-berry thickets and Ana Tree forest; and in the Fever Tree forests. They are not at all common, though.
